A Turkish television drama series told on Thursday Palestinian's grief in a sensitive case among Turkish people, depicting an Israeli soldier shooting dead a Palestinian baby.
"Separation" underlines that the believe will not dissappear in the holy territory which becomes symbol of the humanitarian joint place for both Palestinians and Israelis without discrimination between Muslims or Jews.
TRT is sponsoring the 13-episodes series with the motto "7 countries, 7 headliners".
First episode, titled "Palestine in Love and War", was shot in the first qibla (direction of the Muslim prayers) Al-Aqsa mosque and the most important place for Jewish believers, Wailing Wall.
Other episodes of "Separation" was shot in Armenia, Chechnya, Iran, Ozbekstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan alongside Turkey.
Israeli reaction
Previously close ties between the Jewish state and Turkey, a secular state with a Muslim population, have deteriorated since Israel's offensive in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, which is ruled by the Islamist Hamas.
Israel summoned a Turkish diplomat to protest at what it called "state-sponsored incitement" by state-owned TRT television's "Separation" series, in which actors playing Israeli soldiers and Palestinians fight street battles in Quds (Jerusalem).
The show's producer, Selcuk Cobanoglu, told Reuters, "If the Israeli government is disturbed with this, it means they are disturbed with the reality when we go there and eyewitness what is happening there."
The scene, broadcast on Israel's Channel Two television on Wednesday, showed a Palestinian father holding a baby above his head and an Israeli soldier deliberately shooting the infant.
Gaza assault
Israel's three-week offensive in the Gaza Strip in December and January killed 1,417 Palestinians, including 926 civilians, a a Palestinian rights group says.
Ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians were killed during the campaign, which Israel targeted public areas such as hospitals, schools and mosques.
During a meeting with the Turkish embassy charge d'affairs, a Foreign Ministry official said Israel "cannot stand by when such blatant incitement is being broadcast against Israel and (Israeli) soldiers," a statement issued by the ministry said.
The official also said the portrayal of Israeli soldiers as "a master race eager to murder children" could endanger Israeli and Jewish tourists who visit Turkey.
Turkish officials in Ankara and Tel Aviv were not immediately available for comment, Reuters said.
Turkey barred Israel from participating in a NATO war exercise this week and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said the move was a result of public concerns over the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip earlier this year.
The drill was postponed indefinitely after other nations, including the United States and Italy, refused to take part without Israel's air force.
In January Erdogan, who heads the ruling AK Party, stormed out on Israeli President Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in protest over the offensive.

LOL, I first expected it to be a Kanal 7 or a Samanyolu TV series
Believe it or not, TRT's current general manager is a former village imam (I'm not kidding) who had no previous experience in broadcasting before being appointed to that position.
In the old times, TRT staff were sent to Europe for internship in the BBC and other Eurovision member broadcasters, before starting at the lowest TRT executive position, and then went up the ranks through experience in many years.
Similarly, Turkish Airlines general managers were once picked from aviation professionals who had previously worked in THY for decades.

Following a pro-Israel foreign policy for the past 50 years got us nowhere. We got screwed in the Sabra upgrade, F-4 upgrade and again the Heron procurement is nothing short of a fiasco. We're losing northern Iraq to the Kurds, and the rest of the Middle East is looking up to Iran as the regional leader. Is that how you want to continue? Obviously the EU is showing us the middle finger and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. USA is in the game to protect their interests and theirs only.
It was way overdue that we tried a new International Relations approach in the Middle East, and this is it. We're already getting enormous positive results in Syria, relations with Armenia is warming up and more will follow. I do agree, however, that the switch from the pro-Israeli focus to a pro-Arab focus should have been done a bit more diplomatically and with more care.

I don't want to be misunderstood here, I'm not an AKP supporter per se. But it seems they're using such TV shows to manipulate the general public opinion, not only that of Turks, but also Arabs. Turkey should once again seen as a regional leader, a nation and country that can carry the responsibility of defending Islam. That was our role as a superpower in the past. And the idea is to make people believe in it once more.
Surely, that will take time, and certain policy changes.
This is a very dangerous game to play, which will inevitably deplete the "Turkish ulus" identity and encourage the "Muslim ummah" identity in Turkey, eventually transforming our country into a Sunni version of Iran. No, thanks...

I don't want Turkey to lose its secularism and turn into an Islamic country. But I'm not against the idea of USING the argument of "Defending Islam" or "Standing Up Against Israel" or "Openning Borders With Syria", etc, so that we can gather the support of the Arabs and win the --Leader of the Middle East-- battle against Iran.

JERUSALEM An Israeli Foreign Ministry official rebuked Turkey's acting ambassador Thursday over a TV series Israel says depicts Israeli soldiers murdering children.
Naor Gilon, deputy director for the Western Europe desk, said he told Turkish envoy Ceylan Ozen the series was "incitement" and could spark attacks against Jews visiting Turkey.
Gilon met Ozen at ministry headquarters in Jerusalem amid increasing tensions between the countries.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later joined the chorus of Israeli outrage.
"We are disappointed by the incitement on Turkish television and we are not very happy by the trends we are seeing in Turkey of late," he said at a joint press conference with visiting Spanish premier Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
Muslim Turkey's ties with Israel have deteriorated since Israel's winter offensive against Islamic militants in Gaza codenamed Operation Cast Lead which killed some 1,400 Palestinians.
Last week Ankara canceled a military exercise in which Israeli pilots were to have participated.
Clips of the program, screened by Turkey's state-owned TRT television, show a military force in what appear to be Israeli combat fatigues committing acts of murder and violent repression against Palestinians under their control.
Israel captured the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the 1967 Middle East War.
In one of the most striking moments of the show, a soldier is portrayed standing in front of a father with a baby held high in his hands and firing a bullet at the baby, killing it instantly.
Producer Selcuk Cobanoglu told Israeli news site Y-net, however, that the characters in his series do not represent Israelis.
"The uniforms ... only look similar. The Turkish and American militaries have uniforms like that as well," he said. "We love the people in Israel. We love the Israelis."
Turkey's state-run TRT television that airs the series has made no comments on the issue so far.
The Web site of TRT includes a brief explanation of the series and announces that the production is "a heartfelt display of the events in Palestine, which was occupied in 1948."
The site said the series "portrays the sorrow of women and children, in particular, and gives a voice to the suffering of mothers whose children and husbands were slaughtered."

I think it's in us Turks' genes to enjoy the certain pleasures of life that Islam forbids -- like Raki, chicks that don't wear burkas, etc. Our tradition simply doesn't allow for Islamic extremism. For that reason alone we'd not turn into a Sunni Iran. Besides, we're also too close to Europe for that to happen.
Again, our foreign policy so far has been a very passive and ressesive one and didn't allow Turkey to take on a leading role in its region. Following the collapse of teh Soviet Union, we couldn't even really organize the Turkics in Central Asia into our sphere of influence, let alone the Middle East.
Turkey can use the "Islam" card more effectively to trick the Arabs into believing that we're more like them than what the West had once told them. And that could be a golden opportunity to reclaim our past imperial glory, in a new, secular, modern, progressive body.

I'm not. Everything comes at a cost, I know that. But at the same time every investment needs a little seeding money.
Turkey should play the Islam card to the Arabs while it is still pursuing full EU membership, remaining an avid member of NATO (US ally) and also cooperating with Russia and Iran on energy-related projects, etc. A multi-layered, omni-directional foreign policy. I think it's better.
That is what being where Turkey is (geopolitically) requires. Turkey has to play all sides. Isn't that what the western powers have been doing for so long anyway?

fair ,amicable, and mutually beneficial problem solving with her neighbours starting from her western borders as thats where most of the risks are.the arabs have never been a real threat.
any policy which reduces the risk of war and increases the respect and trade between neighbours should always be the primary goal.this is realistic and attainable within a short period of time with the minimum of cost.

"If Israel has reacted against the TV series, we will talk to them on the matter," he said. "The TV series does not have any political target."
Arinc also said that the Turkish government will not stop the broadcast of the show despite the growing diplomatic tension with Israel surrounding the broadcast.
"We do not think of [canceling the series]," the Turkish deputy premier said. "The Turkish government does not intervene in a TV drama. Moreover, Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) controls TV broadcasts."
The Foreign Ministry on Thursday rebuked the acting Turkish Ambassador to Israel, Ceylan Ozen, over the show.
Naor Gilon, the Foreign Ministry's deputy director for Western Europe, on Thursday said that Israel places great importance on its relations with Turkey, but that it cannot stand by while such images denigrating Israel and the IDF are depicted.
"This kind of incitement is likely to lead to physical harm being done to Jews and Israelis who arrive in Turkey as tourists," Gilon told the Turkish envoy.
Gilon added that such a program, which uses stereotypes to instill hatred, must concern anyone who seeks coexistence between people of different nations and faiths.
He said that Israel views the program with utmost gravity, especially in light of the fact that the soldiers they depict as bloodthirsty killers in real life were the ones to aid Turkey after an earthquake there in 1999.
Earlier Thursday, the show's producer said that his show does not portray the IDF as a whole, but only a certain group of soldiers who had murdered Palestinians.
Speaking in an interview with Israel Radio, the producer added that he and his colleagues loved Israel and were convinced that Israelis do not support acts of slaughter perpetrated against Palestinians.
The show, called Ayrilik, features a love story that develops between the lead characters during Israel's offensive against Hamas in Gaza.
But a partial episode available on YouTube depicts multiple images of the IDF brutalizing the Palestinian population by shooting children in the chest and kicking elderly people on the ground, among other things.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that, "Broadcasting this series is incitement of the most severe kind, and it is done under government sponsorship."
Lieberman added: "Such a drama series, which doesn't even have the slightest link to reality and which presents Israeli soldiers as murderers of innocent children, isn't worthy of being broadcast even by enemy states and certainly not in a state which has full diplomatic relations with Israel."
We tried to warn the Israelis, but they wouldn't listen.
You can't deal with Turks. They combine the worst aspects of Islam and aggressive nationalism. And there is no fundamental difference between Islamists and Kemalists-they're just different sides of the same coin.
