firstly,i think selling and promoting sub systems is the best way to both get your foot in the door and get the reputation happening.though those sub systems can hardly be called high tech they none the less can compete with the bigger boys as,economical,criteria fullfilling alternatives.

secondly,as regards  the term high tech,we both know that this is not what high tech implies.

the only major high tech products the turkish arms industry have are the artillery and ssm's.everything else though fine as it is cannot be considered new or orignal or high tech that can beat what the usa,uk etc can make .for this to happen the education investments must move hand in hand with the R&D.and this isnt really happening.i wont even mention any of the licence and agreement restrictions.

Just for the argument's sake. What's the richest Arab state by nominal GDP? Saudi Arabia. Well, Turkey has nearly twice the GDP of Saudi Arabia, and that is without all the petroleum exports valued at hundreds of billions of dollars annually. In fact, you add UAE on top of Saudi Arabia and they still don't add up to Turkey. I don't mean to be smug about it since I know Turkey is merely the 17th, but that alone should tell you quite a bit about Turkey's industry and indigenous capabilities in comparison. IOW, Turkey indeed has quite a bit to offer to the Arabs.

I agree with Aietus on this, at the moment we don't have high tech of strategic value however we are changing fastly. In 5-6 years we'll have tanks, atack helicopters, APAR/SEAPAR radars etc. etc.

We may still not get in the top 5 but getting in the top 10 as weapon suppliers is quite possible.
