There's actually two of them on top of the turret; probably for both the commander and the gunner. They appear to have thermal imager/night vision capability (black-colored sensor) in addition to the regular mirror assembly (transparent glass) of the periscope.

Corpus,

I'm talking about that thing on the right which looks (and probably is) like a commanders periscope.

If you mean the circular thing on the right of the pic then i would assume it to be a laser warning receiver giving the gunner and commander the location the laser is painting them from..

On 12 June 1992, a Greek Mirage F-1C crashed during a dogfight with a Turkish F-16 piloted by Capt. Ilhan Filiz.

On 8 October 1996, a Greek Mirage-2000 piloted by Thanos Grivas shot down a Turkish F-16D with a Magic IR missile.

Just two days after that murder, on 10 October 1996 a Greek Mirage-2000 crashed close to Semadirek island after a dogfight with two Turkish F-16s.

Point of the story is: TUAF saved itself two missiles.

Oh that. Yeah it appears to be a periscope with 360 degree coverage. Don't think it's got night vision capability though.

FNSS still calculates to build about 900 ACV300 and ACV-S vehicles in the comming years for Malaysia and Pakistan

[linked image]

Pakistan is likely to commence licensed co-production of the Turkish AIFV by the mid-term of the forecast period.

In 2004, FNSS Savunma Sistemleri completed the Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC) procurement of over 2,300 vehicles. In 2006, FNSS reportedly completed deliveries of 211 ACV-300 IFVs to Malaysia. In April 2008, Malaysia placed a follow-on order worth $136 million for 48 additional ACV-300 armored personnel carriers. In a separate contract award worth $16.8 million, Malaysia also ordered eight ACV-S300 mortar carriers.

Production for an anticipated Pakistan Army order of atleast 700 - 900 vehicles reportedly commenced in 2007;
deliveries will likely extend beyond the forecast period.

That reminds me some Malaysian ACV300s have laser warning receivers..

It seems that the Turkish landforces don't plan to place any orders more on the ACV vehicles and Pakistan will become the next big customer of the ACV (Pakistan already bought 102).

I wonder if SSM has plans going on for a new type Armored Carrier Vehicle / AIFV? In S&H there is stated that we need new AIFV's (~30tonnes) for along the Altay tank
