The rise of Turkey in the Balkans
---------------------------------------------------------
From economics to culture, many see the country taking on the role of a new regional power
By Misko Taleski for Southeast European Times in Skopje

Over the past decade, Turkey has carried out a multi-dimensional and multi-regional foreign policy. With its EU membership prospects in limbo, the country has not only looked to the east, but also towards its "near abroad" in the Balkans.
EU regional player Greece's increasing social-financial problems provide ample room for Turkey -- whose economy now ranks twelfth in the world, with a GNP of $10,000 per person -- to take control of the regional rudder.
"After Yugoslavia's disintegration, Turkey's strategic interest returned to the Balkans, also a former Ottoman territory. This time around, the influence is economic and cultural but it soon will become geopolitical," military-political analyst Petar Shkrbina told SETimes. "Erdogan knows that Europe needs Turkey and not the other way around. The main networks of gas and oil pipelines will go through Turkey."
The Balkan countries, primarily Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), but increasingly Serbia as well, have achieved significant political co-operation with Ankara. In the past several years, the economic ties have strengthened as Turkish investors eye the opportunity to secure a foothold in the Balkans marketplace.
Analysts are unanimous that the pan-European corridor No. 10, which will connect the Balkan countries with the rest of Europe, will command the economic attention of Turkey. The corridor's left wing will secure a transportation connection between Turkey and the Balkans, and Turkey and the EU.
Though Turkey is keen to develop bonds with Muslim communities in the Balkans, it says it aims to engage all ethnicities and religions in an effort to increase stability in its neighbourhood.

"Turkey has no imperialist ambitions but is trying to help the neighbouring countries as it can," Turkish Ambassador to Serbia Ali Riza Colak said, answering charges that Ankara is interfering in Serbia's internal affairs after a senior military delegation visited Novi Pazar, in Serbia's Muslim-dominated Rashka (or Sandzak) region.
Rashka remains a source of tension in Ankara-Belgrade relations because the Serbs widely believe local Muslim leaders try to obtain autonomy with the help of Turkey, and many Muslims there identify with BiH.
In response, Ambassador Riza Colak says "Sandzak is the bridge for co-operation between the two countries, and Belgrade must understand the sensitivity of the people in this region."
Turkey-BiH relations are particularly important for the region. Erdogan's election victory statement last month, in which he said his AKP's victory would benefit Sarajevo as much as it would Istanbul, triggered harsh reactions in Republika Srpska.
The Serb member of BiH's tri-member presidency, Nebojsha Radmanovic, said that such statements would cause political problems between BiH's two entities and could lead to new divisions among the three constituent peoples.
"While Bosniak authorities in Sarajevo see a positive effect from Turkey's role in BiH, Serbian politicians there are reserved and do not accept any political role by Ankara in the Balkans," Shkrbina tells SETimes.
"Erdogan's open ambitions to spread the 'Green Diagonal' [spread of Islamic influence through a set of connected countries with Muslim populations] in this space have their own limits. Neither the illegal government of the Muslim-Croat federation will help him to do that nor the political pressures on Croats in central Bosnia," RS Vice President Emil Vlajki said.
Despite any lingering Serbian nationalist suspicion, Turkey has been playing a constructive moderator role by bringing together the presidents of BiH and Serbia to encourage a policy of dialogue and regional security.
The most recent example is the July 6th visit of Serbian President Tadic to Sarajevo, which was secured at a summit among all parties in Istanbul last April. Serbia now pledges to guarantee BiH's integrity and wants to close all open questions.
Turkey has also expressed its desire for BiH and Serbia to enter the Euro-Atlantic community through membership in the EU and NATO.
Although several political issues remain an obstacle to better relations, both Ankara and Belgrade aim to smooth over political differences through greater economic co-operation and interdependence.
For example, Belgrade offered Turkish Airlines a meeting in July to chart a strategic co-operation plan to address long-standing problems facing JAT Airways. Analysts expect the final, positive outcome to be the forming of a joint national airline.
In December 2010, Turkish Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul and Bosnian counterpart Selmo Cikotic met in Sarajevo to discuss business co-operation in the military industries. [Reuters]
Turkish economic activity extends throughout the region. The Turkish company TAV has already invested 200m euro in rebuilding Macedonia's airports. Since March 1st, the Skopje and Ohrid airports are under TAV control for the next 20 years. TAV's executives view Macedonia as a Southeast European hub and have announced they will build a new airport in eastern Macedonia.
In addition, Turkey's Shishe Dzam company has announced its interest in a strategic investment of 150m euro in two factories in Macedonia to produce glass.
Politically, Turkey will continue to be Macedonia's steadfast supporter in Euro-Atlantic integration, advocating membership under Macedonia's name despite the longstanding dispute with Greece.
But the relations have a deeper cultural and historical context in Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, who spent his youth in Macedonia and was educated at an Ottoman military school in Bitola, adding an emotional dimension to how Ankara -- and the Turkish people -- view Macedonia.
A joint celebration of Ataturk's life and achievement is now held annually in Bitola. Such events contribute to increased tourism in both directions. Turkey's summer destinations and Macedonia's mountain and nature potential are attractive to both peoples, and there has been a large increase in tourist agency activity in the past decade.
An important element of Turkey's "soft power" is the increasing number of soap operas and other TV shows that have conquered audiences throughout the Balkans. In virtually every Balkan state, Turkish shows are breaking records, as well as the long-held prejudice against Islam.
"They are very professionally produced, and they promote not luxury and glamour, but also traditional Islamic customs during marriage and funerals. The series are the cheapest but most effective approach to spread Turkish influence in the region," Shkrbina said.
Turkey only has the potential to become popular in terrorist supporting Islamic areas in the Balkans, elsewhere they are despised.

^^ Reports say different. Even Serbia wants to have good relations with Turkey today.
"Turkey has followed a more proactive foreign policy towards the Balkan region in recent years, and along with its strong political and diplomatic ties with these countries, it can contribute to regional peace and stability. So say representatives of political organisations and NGOs from the region who urge Turkey to boost its economic presence there.
The signing of the Istanbul Declaration among the presidents of Turkey, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Istanbul in April 2010 marked an important achievement regarding Turkey's role in the Balkans. The revitalisation of Turkish foreign policy towards the region is also often referred to as "neo-Ottomanism," following Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's approach and speeches.
The three heads of state -- signatories of the Istanbul Declaration -- expressed their "commitment to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and the legal personality of Bosnia and Herzegovina within its internationally recognised borders, while stressing the importance of national reconciliation within BiH," in the document. This was considered the most relevant part, and although it was not a solution to all problems between the two countries, Turkey was praised for having Serbia comment on BiH's territorial sovereignty.
"I need to say that we are quite thankful for [Turkey's] role in whole political process in the region. [However,] in recent years, we did not really have diplomatic and political problems with our neighbours. We [rather] have problems with every day lives ... that we need to solve on our own," BiH's Federal Minister of Education and Science, Damir Masic, told SETimes."
Damn! I think thats what they call "regional power". Didnt we hit their airforce decade ago? Today we are making agreements to invest Balkanic countries.
No dont get excited Greeks, you are bunkrupt, we wont invest you.
"Turkey's political relations with Serbia have been at their peak in the past couple of years, which is another important element in the context of Turkey's more proactive role in the Balkans. Highest level officials have paid formal visits to each other in recent years, after ups and downs following Turkey's recognition of Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence.
"The priority of Belgrade and Pristina [should be] economic collaboration and [increasing living] standards of the people. Political pressures will be finished with time," Nebojsa Randelovic, a member of the Serbian parliament and deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party -- a political party that supports recognition of Kosovo as an independent state in Serbia -- told SETimes.
In contrast to Turkey's direct involvement in the BiH and Kosovo issues, the country has played an indirect role regarding the Albanian issue in Macedonia, according to Abdula Saliu, vice president of the Skopje-based Balkan Peace Club.
Turkey has not been involved officially regarding this issue, due to very good relations it enjoys with Macedonia, Saliu told SETimes, adding that Turkish NGOs as well as the Turkish International Co-operation and Development Agency had played an important role, supporting Albanian minority people with aid for education and restoration of important cultural monuments.
Turkey has absolutely played a positive role for stability in the Balkans during the post-Yugoslav era and has excellent current relations with all Balkan countries, according to Vujica Lazovic, deputy prime minister of Montenegro.
"It is very important to have a common friend-country ..., especially in case there is no good collaboration among the region's neighbouring countries themselves," Lazovic told SETimes. He also said he hoped more and more Turkish companies would invest in the region. "You know, a [good] economy is the base for everything, the solution to any problem," Lazovic said.
Nikephoros and his mental capacity never exceed 2 sentences which usually has nothing to do with the post or even close to a possible connection in some ways ... its just his mentality that when he trolls in every post ... it will make his sexual frustration go away...
however nothing can make butt hurt the 500 years of slavery in ottoman caused ...
This is why he actually has Vaseline in his sig ...because he cant even walk without using it .
Lets talk about the article then
Hopefully the current grow rate of the Turkish economy will continue couple of more years before it slows down to normal levels .This will definitely influence our "friendly"neighbour countries as well as the "*** hole" ones . In the future even Greece might get benefit from it.
TV series ... seriously ... i dont know anything about Turkish Tv series . I find most of them,if not all stupid. But this influence to surrounding states is quite good . It reminds me of the Japanese. Chinese and Koreans have political and past issues with Japanese hate most of them but they still watch the series and tv stars of Japan and kinda admire them.

"Qatari and Turkish joint investment heading for Bulgaria

Bulgaria's road network is poorly integrated with its neighbours. [Reuters]
Bulgaria, Turkey and Qatar have agreed to start a joint four-year project to build a highway through Bulgaria, boosting Bulgaria's neglected road infrastructure while expanding Turkish and Qatari stakes in the EU's poorest country.
The city of Ruse, located on the border with Romania, will be connected to Svilengrad near the border of Greece and Turkey via a 300km highway. The estimated cost of the project is 777m euros, and will be implemented under a public-private partnership.
"The Ruse-Svilengrad highway is the first ever joint project initiated on a government to government basis involving the three countries: Qatar, Turkey and Bulgaria," Vessela Tcherneva, the spokesperson of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told SETimes.
"The road will be part of the pan-European corridor IX and will complete the so-called Black Sea ring road. The highway is expected to be of a great value connecting Europe with Istanbul and onwards with the Middle East," she added.
Parallel to the May 24th agreement on highway construction, separate memoranda of understanding were also signed in the agriculture, tourism, mining, real estate and health sectors. Qatari Prime Minister Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jabr Al Thani said his oil and gas rich country would invest $200m (162m euros) in Bulgaria's Central Bank to show the seriousness of Qatar's intention to invest in Bulgaria.
Last March, Turkey and Bulgaria signed a total of 17 agreements during a visit by a Bulgarian cabinet delegation headed by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Turkey has substantial investment and trade interests in Bulgaria, while tiny Qatar -- which punches above its weight in the international arena -- has been investing heavily throughout the world to expand its economic and political influence.
""The EU does not promise so much to Bulgaria, leading the latter to turn her face to the most immediate Eastern neighbour, which is Turkey," she told SETimes. She said that Turkey has competent companies working in the infrastructure and construction sectors, which is considered as an important asset.
Now that Qatar is expanding investment in the Balkans, Kutlay says that Turkey acted as an "informal broker" to attract Gulf capital to Bulgaria by using its friendly relations with Qatar.
Bulgaria is a key entry point for Turkish goods to the EU, the Balkans and Eastern Europe, making an efficient transportation corridor through Bulgaria a top economic priority.
Bulgaria and Qatar are also evaluating trade and investment opportunities in liquefied natural gas to help relieve Bulgaria's dependence on Russian gas."
Turkey looks to invest in Serbia's construction sector

Turkish businessmen have their eye on Serbia. Also in business news: Cyprus ranks highest in the region in this year's Global Enabling Trade report, and road toll charges in Croatia will increase by 15% on Friday.
Serbia's construction sector is drawing Turkish interest. [Reuters]
Turkish businessmen are interested in investing in Serbia, especially in the construction field, the TUSKON Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey Vice President Ahmet Ciger told Tanjug on Thursday (May 24th). TUSKON is holding an event called World Trade Bridge next week in Istanbul, which will bring together over 3,000 local and foreign engineering, construction, furniture and textile businesses from 140 countries.

You stupid idiot Babyb1tch Greece made the most investments in the Balkans before your Arabic hellhole, it did not lead to any conquering.
At the end of the day the average Balkan Christian uses the word Turk or Turkish as an insult. A good example is the famous Serbian writer living in Bosnia, Ivo Andric:
Freed from all earthly ties and burdens,
He was no longer a prey to troubles;
No one could do anything more against him,
Neither rifle, nor sword,
Nor evil thoughts, nor men's words,
NOR TURKISH COURTS!

Money does not unite, ultra-nationalist Turkish troll. Alot of the elitist Turkish members who are richer hate the poor Yobaz Turks even more than most Greeks. Money divides.
Infact that Turkey needs to act as Qatari conduit in the Balkans, shows what a bubble the Turkish economy is, because with 8% growth your companies should have been able to make a such an investment on their own. The Gulf States are ones who fund your current economic boom:
Between 2002 and 2003, the Turkish Central Bank's summary balance of "payments for net error and omission"which is to say, money that appeared in the nation's financial system for which government reporting cannot accountincreased from approximately $200 million to more than $4 billion. By 2006, Turkish economists estimated the Green Money infusion into the Turkish economy to be between $6 billion and $12 billion, and given the ability of the government to hide some of these revenues by assigning them to tourism, that is probably a wild underestimation. Some Turkish intelligence officials privately suggest that the nation of Qatar is today the source of most subsidies for the AKP and its projects.
Thus, if Iran's Islamic revolution was spontaneous, Turkey's was anything but: it was bought and paid for by wealthy Islamists.
AKP officials are well-placed to manage the Green Money influx. Throughout much of the 1980s, Erdogan's sidekick, Gul, worked as a specialist at Saudi Arabia's Islamic Development Bank. Before the 2002 victory, he criticized existing state scrutiny of Islamist enterprises. Senior AKP advisers made their fortunes in Islamic banking and investment. Korkut Ozal, for example, is the leading Turkish shareholder in al--Baraka Turk, Turkey's leading Islamic bank, as well as in Faisal Finans, which also has its roots in Saudi Arabia.
Erdogan has systematically placed Islamist bankers in key economic positions. He appointed Kemal Unakitan, a former board member at both al--Baraka and Eski Finans, as finance minister and moved at least seven other al-Baraka officialsone of whom had served as an imam in an illegal commando campto key positions within Turkey's banking regulatory agency.
Erdogan also reoriented Turkey's official foreign trade. In 2002, bilateral trade between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates hovered at just over half a billion dollars. By 2005, it had grown to almost $2 billion. That same year, Kursad Tuzmen, the state minister for foreign trade, announced that United Arab Emirates ruler Sheik Khalifa bin Zayid al-Nuhayyan would invest $100 billion in Turkish companies. Not to be outdone, Saudi Arabia's finance minister announced earlier this year that Saudi Arabia would invest $400 billion in Turkey over the next four years. In contrast, in 2001, Turkish-Saudi trade amounted to just over $1 billion. When Turkish-Iranian trade surpassed $10 billion in 2009, Erdogan announced a goal to increase it to $30 billion. Whether or not Turkey and its Persian Gulf allies are exaggerating their figures, the trajectory of trade is clear.

Dont cry nike, companies always work together. It was just an example, there are more examples which i posted and not posted yet that Balkan countries getting "indegenous" Turkish investments.
In the following years, probably the Balkan people will be the primary customers of Turkish Airlnes once whole Balkan airlines are united under THY. (Globally Yours)

Personally I don't mind a strong Turkey, at first it will be difficult for our ego and some things are bound to change. I see the role of great-Turkey as stabilising for the region. About balkans and Turkey...................................
you are again right! Turkey's sphere of influence will stretch in a few year's time in Balkans and north africa too. You were blessed by luck and GOD to have a great leader to put Turkey out of the misery. And I think davutoglu's dogma bears fruits already, I sense that even with Russia there is going to be some sort of agreement, at least there are many such hints in the russian press about it lately. Greece is "finished" for many-many years to come and I feel that our enemies and foes are not going to be the Turks or even new Ottomans but our "partners" in the E.U. I am afraid that sooner or later, greek politics would come to a certain agreement with Turkey, it is a dead-end road. I don't think you should take michael rubin seriously. He is very biased.People who know him a little bit know why he is angry with Turkey.
But Turkey's recent growth is not to be exaggerated either.Because Our economy shrank nearly 5% in 2009 so we had to grow fast the following years to make up this decrease in growth.I think They did it with the expense of having a huge current account deficit, but the recent statistics show that the reduction in the current account is underway. The exports are increasing more than imports. So maybe we will achieve soft landing.
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkeys-current-account-deficit-narrowing.aspx?pageID=238&nID=22921&NewsCatID=344
"Turkeys current account deficit was down to $21.2 billion in the first four months of 2012, according to data released yesterday by the Turkish Central Bank."
I find nothing wrong from attracting money from middle east countries as well. With the current change of property law I guess we will be seeing many arabs, russian, british etc buying turkish land(and bringing money). It is not just about buying houses.Russians are building nuclear plant. They already started bringing the money. They will build it with their own money.I guess You must have heard of many foreign energy and industrial companies investing in Turkey this year after passing a new incentive law.
I am not Akp supporter and I dont think AKP is achieving big growth rates as I think a country in turkey's size and a country having a high young population should have at least 6% growth every year(regularly),but As the other countries are doing so badly akp looks very good.
Turkey will realize a positive growth this year and next year as well. The formula to growth is to have stability. That is what Turkey has (for now).
Our growth will affect positively everyone,Greece,Bulgaria,Georgia,Syria etc and vice versa.

When will those Turks learn history??? It was the Ottoman Empire that started this cycle when it attacked the Byzantine Empire for no reason...
So Turks before posting on WAFF praising about your Altays and Huyndais read some history ok?
As for the crisis in the end it's going to be much worse for you Turks...You see the anger of the citizens and the rise of Golden Dawn as well as the no-more crap from Turkey behaviour. History has taught us that in situations like these everyone unites against a common enemy real or fake...just hope that enemy isn't Turkey for your sake.
And as i said again your arrogant behaviour is going to get you into trouble...PKK,Syria,Balkans,Hellas,Cyprus,Israel...if you continue like that we won't even have to lift a finger your country won't be able to remain neutral for much more it's either :you attack Syria and you take the side of USA or you don't and get to keep your neutrality for a bit longer till USA decides you're not worthy allies...

Turkey only has the potential to become popular in terrorist supporting Islamic areas in the Balkans, elsewhere they are despised.
Wahabi money is flowing here heavily I would suspect. Every now and than you see glimps of Islamic influence over there. I wonder who monitors these people? Probably no one. Germany recently discovered a bunch of salafist networks that were too extreme. You would wonder how many underground groups are active in balkans.

Greeks are our neighbors. We could have been in the same situation they are in now. When we had izmit earthquake Greek people were one of the first one coming to help us.
Did you forget about the friendship between Venizelos and Ataturk? You all talk about how great leader Ataturk was .
Ataturk made Turkey and Greece friends, and that is how it is supposed to be today as well.
Venizelos even nominated Ataturk for Nobel prize.
I guess you know that we formed a Balkan Pact with Greece,Romania and Yugoslavia while Ataturk was in power.Anyway that is not important. What is important is two countries after a war became friends.
why don't you follow your the example of Ataturk?most of you at the end claim to be kemalist or Ataturk fan?
Stop abusing the situation in Greece.

Prophet Muhammad and One of his Jewish Neighbors
One story related about the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, speaks about a Jewish neighbor that used to try to irritate him by throwing garbage in his way every day. One day, he walked out of his home to find no garbage. He immediately went to the woman's house and inquired about her to find that she was ill and he offered his assistance. She was so moved and at the same time ashamed of her actions at his concern after all she had done to him. This is a prime example of being a good neighbor.

yeah, Ataturk and Venizelos proposed to leave the past behind and open a white page but what griks did ? boosted the hatred, tried to exterminate turks, tried to exploit every problem in Turkey, helped terrorists, did every anti-turk propaganda in international area, they even dare to became tool for imperialists for the sake of hatred, just now they are trying to become jewish lapdog just for the sake of anti-turk mentality . so we have a saying "kendi düsen aglamaz".

Ha i can't believe i'm hearing this...Ataturk a peacemaker...well i guess it's easy to make peace after you wipe out nearly all the Hellenes of modern Turkey...
As for Venizelos he was a good leader his first years but he really messed up the M.Asia campaign which resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people...he put too much trust in the "allies" but the thing with them is you never know who's allies they are...
The reason he pursued a friendship with Ataturk was either because he was afraid of a Turkish invasion in Hellas or more possibly because the "allies" ordered him so...
But one thing is for certain...the deaths of thousands Hellenes didn't destroy the Megali Idea ,in fact it has made it a duty to the memories of our ancestors and fallen citizens to reclaim what is ours...

Experts suggest a common airline for the Western Balkans
----------------------------------------------------------
12/04/2012
Proponents say it would mean cheaper fares and direct connections.
By Muhamet Brajshori for Southeast European Times in Pristina -- 12/04/12
More flights are being added to service the Serbian, Croatian and Kosovo markets. [Reuters]
In Serbia, the government has tried repeatedly to privatise national carrier JAT Airways, but without success. The biggest regional carrier remains Turkish Airlines, which is increasing service in the Western Balkans.
Ali Genc, Turkish Airlines senior vice president for media relations, told SETimes that the airline has introduced two flights per day to Belgrade, ten weekly flights to Pristina, Skopje, Tirana and to Sarajevo, and plans to add an extra flight to Podgorica for the summer travel season.
"We are co-operating with many partners in the Balkan region," said Genc. "We are always ready to co-operate with any partner who can undertake our service quality."
"[Currently,] we fly to all capital cities in the Balkans. We are a fast growing company and we are expanding our business all around the world, as well as in the Balkan region. We have made great progress in the region which can be seen by looking into the numbers," Genc added.
He says that the Balkan market is very tough. "There is no market depth and the market is very price-sensitive. The positive fact about the region is that there is a steady growth in the market. Nearly 80% of the market direction is to the west. With our new network pattern we aim to get more share from this market and we are seeing some progress," Genc said.
Andrea Dimitrov, a traveler from Bulgaria, is killing time at Tirana Airport. His connecting flight to get home is through Vienna, roughly 800km out of his way.
"It is through Vienna because there is no direct flight, and the ticket is enormously expensive. I paid 370 euros; I could get a cheaper one from Sofia to London," Dimitrov said.
Overall, the global financial crisis has meant lean times for airlines, and the Western Balkans has proved to be no exception. While some countries like Serbia have state-owned carriers, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia have fully privatised theirs or have retained holdings in carriers, such as Croatian Airlines and Adria Airways. The relatively small market and number of carriers has some experts calling for a common airline able to service the whole region.
"If the national carriers merge into a regional one, it would offer stability in the market, decrease prices for passengers, and [encourage] fair competition towards the bigger European airlines present in the market," Dritan Keliu an economics professor and head of the Balkan Centre for Economy and Trade, told SETimes.
As of now, Albania's only operating airline is BelleAir, a private company. In November 2011, the Albanian Civil Aviation authority revoked the license of Albanian Airlines to prevent it from being added to a list of carriers that are banned by the EU. The airline had been privatised little more than two years earlier.
Keliu says that the Serbian, Croatian and Kosovo markets are seeing an increase in flights.
"Croatia as a tourist destination, while Kosovo and Serbia -- because of the huge Diaspora living abroad -- are seeing a huge increase of flights. Pristina Airport for many is a way to go now to Macedonia or Albania because of the distance to those countries."
Kosovo is the only country in the region without a private or government-owned carrier, which enables the different companies that fly to Pristina to control the fares.
Blerim Meta, a doctor living in Germany, told SETimes that he would choose a Kosovo airline if it were an option. "It would control the prices and Kosovo's Diaspora would send the money for tickets directly to Kosovo, not somewhere else."

@Talatpasha
Not all the greek people are Turkish hater.
I've met some greek people, especially greek cypriots.I did not see any hate,at least to my face.I am sure there are greeks who hates turks(there are some here).
I think Greeks have been used by certain countries. That is why they are in this situation.Look at the most of banks that have greek debt instruments. They are mostly french and German banks. They sold the weapons and at the same time They gave necessary credit to Greece to pay for the weapons.Turkey is always presented as an enemy to Greece, but same happened everywhere pakistan-india etc.
Secondly greeks wouldn't be in this situation if they were not in euro zone.Countries like Germany just abused the situation from beginning. Many people foresaw this would happen at the beginning of this monetary union.I don't want to get into details.one who is interested can find the relevant articles easily on internet.
All I wanna say is this crisis in greece is not exactly greek people's fault. They were naive,or gullible. They were put in a union they were not fit to enter.
We have been in 2 crisis in 2000/2011 which resulted in bringing akp to the goverment. Those crisis were one of the most stupid crisis created. If someone look at them he/she can see that everyone was trying to create a crisis by following a program of the IMF(that is the sad part)which was obvious that wasn't gonna work. I don't even wanna get into the 1994's crisis.were we so stupid to create crisis like that?no, we were just cheated.do you all remember? the president of the central bank did a currency transaction for himself just one day before crisis and he made lots of money by doing that.We had some corrupted officials, incumbent politicians and foreign organization who were just there to take advantage of the situation.so it can happen to anyone.
Anyway,We managed to pull it off why?because we weren't in a monetary union and we could have a devaluation immediately and plus we managed to pass the necessary laws(Kemal Dervis's Laws).
Why I am all saying these We were there,we experienced similar things,we suffered and we came out.
Greece will come out of this crisis as well.No one is stuck in that kind of situation.People learn from their mistakes.
We will be living with greeks, with araps and the others so it is better having a good relationship than bad.
If our neighbors got prosperous we will be prosperous as well.Look at the situation in Iraq we are now having one of our highest trade surplus with them( 3.2 billion dollars surplus) .I hope Iraq and the others countries do better and our trade increase with them even more.
I am not sure if i am being understood well.I guess it is against the way we were brought up.we were taught of being modest and generous, not taking mickey out of someone who is in difficult position.
.........................................................
just a quick reminder for some people :
Turkey was the World's 16th biggest economy in 1997 and We are still 16 th biggest economy in 2011.Not much changes, right?

Hellas didn't attack anybody, Alexander's campaign was actually defending Hellas from another Persian invasion(there had already been two and Macedonia was captured in one of them). But i guess it's too much to expect every nation to have the level of civilization of Hellas, that's why our ancestors said "Pas mi Ellin, varvaros"

Suffering? Darling it's time to wake from the dream world and see the truth. The average Hellene lives at least 2 times better than the average Turk even amidst crisis. Just because you happen to be rich doesn't make your country rich. Most of your countrymen are poor compared to Hellas standards.
Now go kill some Syrians as your American master commands you and ignore your soon to be bad situation. Better for Hellas that way anyway...Just don't say you weren't warned...

"Now are you saying Egyptians, Syrians, Armenians, Kurds, Whole balkans, Libyans etc..etc attacked Alexander and he defended himself?? Plsss!! "
I told you to double-check your facts before posting darling, Alexander attacked the Persian EMPIRE which included the above people...that's what an empire is a BIG country composed of many ethnicities...
He started with nothing but the most honest intention...He tried to combine the Hellenic and Persian elements just as the Ottomans tried to combine Hellenic with Turkish but failed. he recognized the way of living of those people and let them worship their own gods etc. It was only but a few years before his death that he became megalomaniac and wanted to conquer the whole earth. But the always treated his enemies with respect and he is largely responsible with how every civilization in the world is formed right now (we can see Hellenic influence in Indian as well as Chinese civilization or specifically Buddhism)
"As i said before, Byzantine AKA East Roman Empire once a giant, to be a giant, they attacked other nations for no reason. Oh sorry they rightfully had reason to be giant as Turks did. Why cant you accept that? "
Who did the Byzantines attack?

Such behavior is rare and i'm sure there are similar examples in Turkey so you don't want to use that as an argument...And what i said is true about the standards of living of the average citizen...

TurkArabian Airlines added some flights to Tirana and Pristina, so this automatically means that TurkoArabs are powerful.

@Shadow; So your "Hellas didn't attack anybody" thesis was wrong. Everybody once had the power wanted to rule the others. Its human nature. Once Turks entered the west's historical scene, you lost anything you had. Now you are crying for that? Not reasonable situation for a grown up person.
"@Shadow; So your "Hellas didn't attack anybody" thesis was wrong. Everybody once had the power wanted to rule the others. Its human nature. Once Turks entered the west's historical scene, you lost anything you had. Now you are crying for that? Not reasonable situation for a grown up person."
No it wasn't wrong it was right...lol...i say some things and you understand completely different.
Alexander's attacked as i said and you didn't quite get it was a DEFENSIVE attack...Persia had already invaded Hellas two times and conquered Macedonia...
HE wanted to take revenge and prevent another invasion in the future. It's that simple really,he didn't attack just for the sake of being named a conqueror...
As for losing anything we had to the Ottomans, learn that we have the same blood, the same language, the same traditions, the same religion, the same culture and basically we are nearly the same as our ancestors after 400years of Ottoman rule...
Your roots however trace back to the Mongols...when you entered the western historical scene you were largely influenced by Arabia and Hellas and only recently you did a 360degrees turn and became Turkey a wannabe European western state still "trapped" in the old ways however...
And i'm not crying i'm stating the facts if you don't like the truth close your ears darling(or eyes more likely).

I want to know your teachers, no really, what a nice imaginary and excuse to show how innocent you are! I believe your murders in 1918-1923 era in Anatolia has many good excuses also.
Anyway its so stupid to argue with you about that. Its all about Turkish peacefully rising all over the Balkans without weapons.
As children across Turkey finish their last day of school before summer vacation, a report released Thursday showed only half of students between the ages of 15 and 19 will return to classrooms in the fall.
A lack of qualified educators, low family incomes and pessimism about their higher-education prospects are among the key reasons behind the high dropout rate, ...
...
According to the report, more than 360,000 registered students dropped out of school during the 2008-2009 school year. This means that more than 2,000 young people left school each school day, said Aytu amaz, one of the education experts who assisted in preparing the report. ...
...
The report shows that out of 50 percent of the countrys boys and girls aged 15 to 19 who do not go to high school, 26 percent of the boys and 50 percent of the girls do not work either. The respective average rates for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD, countries are 8 and 9 percent.
The TurkStat figures show that the Turkish population edged up to 71.5 million in March 2009, while there were as many as 6.87 million automobiles logged in official traffic registries. In other words, there is one car for every 11 persons in Turkey.
Ankara topped the list of per capita automobile ownership, largely due to a high number of state service vehicles. In the capital there is one car per 5.27 people. Antalya, Mula, stanbul and Burdur followed Ankara with one car for every seven people. ...
The president of the Turkish Drivers and Automobiles Federation (TOF), Fevzi Apaydn, says Turkey is far behind the European Union average in terms of automobile ownership despite these positive figures. According to information provided by Apaydn, there is one automobile for every single person in Europe. He added: An automobile is widely perceived as a source of livelihood or prestige. For many, however, it is only a dream. That means having a car in Turkey is a problem for many, while keeping its wheels turning is a much more difficult issue. Fuel, spare parts, insurance and maintenance are extra expenditure items that not all car owners are able to handle easily.
Therefore, there are many people who bought automobiles but left them to rot in front of their homes.

"Makes sense more than your pathetic excuses happy.gif What happened now? Since you cant find more excuses we start english lessons and attacking Kemal again? Same tactics everytime"
I post arguments and historical facts, and you counter them by insulting instead of presenting your own arguments so guess who's pathetic...
As is said we are here for more than 8000years and we've seen races like yours come and go but we're still here and if there is a ethnicity that can claim that it shaped the world that's us...What will you Turks brag about to your grandchildren :about Altays and killing a few Kurds?
"Oh the sue us. LoL. Or maybe you should add Spanish and Brits and Portuguese also.. You know they are living in America now where it doesnt belong them. happy.gif You are really so childish. Noone is giving you nothing for free. Anatolia is Turkish for 1000 years. You will have to live with this fact forever. "
As expected you avoid the subject...it hurts doesn't it? As for Anatolia who says we want it for free? We'll reclaim it the way we lost it...

You arguments are so funny. You never attack other nations for no reason but interestingly Alexander ruled half of the known old world for some period. Very convincing indeed.

8000? LoL Last time it was 5000. Anyway lets say its 11000 years, that even doesnt change the fact we Turks here in Anatolia for 1000 years and the most interesting part is we are here today, you are not. Your ethnicity is a joke for foreigners since you have been ruled by any "come and go" nations at the past and today also. (This time the germans are your masters)
"As expected you avoid the subject...it hurts doesn't it? As for Anatolia who says we want it for free? We'll reclaim it the way we lost it..."

We have defeat you and kick you into the agean sea to learn swimming, with the weakest military in the history of Türkiye!
At this time it was the glory time of the Greek army. It called the most modern army ever which greeks ever had!
And we kicked so hard in your asses that you today feel the pain of it!
How will you defeat today or in the future turkish army?

what these guys dont get is that after 14 years of economic growth, greece finally for 4 years now is in a correction phase which by all estimations will end in 2013 after which we will see strong growth again...
make no mistake, greece is a powerhaus, turkey is in a bubble phase and soon will be burst (construction bubble funded by emirates cash flow)

The first Hellenic tribes were in Hellas even earlier than 10000years ago so say the scientists. Circa 3000bc is considered officialy the start of Hellenic civilization because of various reasons, but basically the forming of the civilization started even earlier...
As for those who ruled us,i'm glad you mentioned that...There's no Roman Empire now there's only Italy that got it's arse kicked back at WW and there's no Ottoman Empire only Turkey a wannabe European state with a somewhat confused identity...Hellas however is still the same Hellas, same language, blood, culture only with fewer lands...

When was that? If you are refering to the M.Asia campaign you've got your facts wrong...It was Hellenic starved soldiers and abandoned by the allies against Turks who had help from the Soviets...If this was Hellas vs Turkey by themselves you wouldn't be here today...
A few Hellenic guerilas not even a standard army however liberated Hellas from the empire...

Normally i wouldn't answer a monkey like you but here it is then...Today the Hellenic army is at it's best ever since the forming of the Hellenic state at 1821...An nation of 11million is your equal in terms of military...Our airforces are evenly matched but yours has to protect a MUCH bigger area...
We have control of the Aegean and it's vast energy resources and depending on our inner situation we are going to start drilling soon. Meanwhile if there is a war like any war we will call upon countries that have something to gain by helping us(or they will call us). Before we start a war with you we are going to supply the PKK to hit you hard while Israel may also join if it has something to win by this...
And before you use your usual excuse sissy learn that in every war allies are important and paramount to the success or failure...
Now go eat a banana monkey...

All nations are there if you dont close your eyes. Roman empire or Italy, Seljuk/Ottoman Empires or Turkey, all same as you certainly know but just want to ignore. Additionally it was Italians who are the real owners of East Roman Empire not you. You just want to steal other nations achievments since you were not very succesful in history. In fact, thats the whole reason of your such "we were very friendly people but every time we were under attack" funny excuses. Why dont you be a man and admit it? You were not a succesful nation when it comes to protect your so called lands.
BTW there is no such a thing "we are here for 10000 years, so it belongs to us" ands belongs to those who can protect it. Thats why there is no single Greek in Anatolia anymore.
"Fist reclaim your OWN lands from PKK and then come back again dear..."
We are doing it very well. Every corner of Turkish Republic, its Turkish flag waving on the top. Some countries' support to terrorists (including greece), did not and will not change anything.

Italy are not the spiritual descendants of the Roman Empire they are much closer to Germans and the other northern barbarians...
The real owners of the Eastern Roman Empire are the Hellenes because the population was mostly Hellenic, the official language was Hellenic, the culture was Hellenic etc
We are the MOST succesful nation in the world since the world is what it is 99% because of Hellas...The fact that we were friendly isn't an excuse, our ancestors studied philosophy you know, science, art, etc. Of course that's all too complicated for a Turk perhaps you'll understand when your nation grows wiser...Every religion is based on ancient Hellenic philosophy : Christianity,Islam,Buddhism etc
Say anything you want but denying our achievements is stupid even for a Turk...

East Roman Empire existed thanks to Roman Empire which is nothing to do with greeks. It doesnt mean its Greek empire since you were the most populated ethnicity there. Further more, Greeks were used as slaves especially in Caesar era. Do you want us to believe Roman empire effected by their slave's culture? You ask too much.

You are out of earth LoL I can believe this! HAHAHAHA!!

The fact you seem friendly because most of period you took part in the istory, you were weak and need to be friendly to survive. You had to kiss azz of other nations not to be destroyed. Your same habit still valid even in ths forum by getting excited every dreamy opportunity such as Israel, US, Russia, etc etc.
Guess why did you keep your language, religion and culture in your slavery times of Ottoman Turks? Because you were so friendly to us, loyal and the best azz kisser. The FACT is that without the Soviets your Ankara would be a ruin today...oh sh1t i forgot...it IS a ruin...
What are you going to claim next that brave 5year old Turks fighting with stones won billions of Hellenes wielding lightsabers? I expect that from you...
Another fact the greatest fack in our history is the one your Ottomans took from a handful of guirellas and philellhnes...

Turkey ratifies railway agreement to integrate with Balkan states
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"By Tzvetina Borisova and Alakbar Raufoglu for Southeast European Times
The regional railway would cover all of Southeast Europe. [Reuters]
With the goal of creating a high performance railway network to connect countries in Southeast Europe, Turkey ratified an agreement as part of the Southeast European Co-operation Process in late-October.
The deal, signed in Thessaloniki in May 2006, vows to significantly reduce travel times between countries in the region, improve the quality of passenger and freight transport, and increase the competitiveness of railway transport in the Balkans.
It also pledges to deal with costly border delays by eliminating requirements to have trains stop for customs and passport controls. Instead, appropriate controls would be conducted during the journey.
The planned network will cover the region with 16 transportation axes, carrying commercial goods at speeds of up to 130 km/h, with plans to increase speeds to 160 km/h and 220 km/h where possible by 2020.
Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Montenegro and Moldova are all included in the planned network.
Officials in Ankara, which ratified the deal on October 28th, say the high-speed railway network project "sounds more beneficial now than it did years ago".
"Everyone in our region -- from east to west, from Asia to Europe -- can benefit from it," the Turkish Parliament's Transportation Commission Chairman Idris Gulluce said. "An efficient transport system is essential to the economic and social advancement of both Turkey and the Southeast European countries."
"[Southeastern Europe] is now facing the realities of the global economic crisis, while in the Asian part of the world, people fight against the hardships of restricted freedoms. Turkey, being in the middle of the two, tries to connect and help both," he added.
Turkey's former Transportation Minister Oktay Vural, on the other hand, argues that the participating governments must be more organised and make sure the project is financially justifiable.
"Years ago we had lots of railroad drafts [projects] with regards to connecting Europe and Asia, but years pass, and those become more expensive," he explained, adding that a consortium must be created by the participating countries.
When it comes to Turkey, "the government should be transparent during the whole process: what are the procedures; who gets the tenders, what are the prices? What we see right now is that the participating countries give more political, rather than economic [based] statements."
Sweden's Bertil Hylen, who advised the EU on the development of the Turkish State Railways, says that given the long distances and relatively small population in the region, high-speed rail would have difficulty competing with air transportation.
"Many Western European railways with high-speed services are still overstaffed, uneconomic and need huge public subsidies for a not very attractive service. The situation in Eastern Europe [and Turkey] is even worse," he explained.
"Eastern Europe should seriously consider what kind of railway it needs in the future and how to get there. The focus should be on rail freight," the expert pointed out.

hah.
we know tayyip speeches depend on days.
i speak because you cant find balkan türks to vote for sakirts.
and tayyip saw that and he invates balkan turks with sakirts of Turkiye.
Tayyip commanded Bulgarian President Angelov to created new muftu system of Bulgaria which will be ruled by Tayyip's choosen sakirts.
Mustafa haci the main sakirts of Akp in Bulgaria.
has was lefist in jivkov's times. but today he is on of the capitalist sakirt. one of Fetto soldiers.
Tayyip cant get votes from balkan turks ! Cuz balkan turks are educated people, hardworking people ! we are karamanids.
we dont like sakirts. even we were using turkish in mosques untill kurdish turgut ozal has become a turkis president.
here is showing the thefts of that sakirt. When akp has come to Bulgaria. This guy got rich ...
and what about Tayyip.
i did not say that " i am gerogian my wife is kurdish from arab" ...
dont act like stupid. Turkis media were fully busy with this speech of Tayyip ... When he went to Georgia in 2005 ... you can find about it on the internet.

"we balkan turks dont like AKP and Erdogan's movement."
I dont like AKP either.
But i dont like the others also. All of them are the system parties with different opinions of living styles. What i really believe is, recent achivements would already happen by any other government thanks to the huge potential of my country and nation. Turkish nation has lost their hopes from politics, just want a stable government and ask nothing more.
We can make agreements, we can export, we can R&D, we can produce, we can market and we can sell anything we want anymore. So being against any achievement of Turkish republic due to government or promoting government for every success is not true according to me.
Lets not politisize everything and enjoy our lifes because this time we deserve to celebrate OUR success.
we protected our language and our belief.
My grandmother dosnt like today's praying of muslims in Turkiye. She sais "my ancestors never did like this"
i am not so religious but my grandmothers from both sides are religiouses.
i dont like tayyip ! it is not because he is muslim. i am muslim too.
i hate tayyip
because he is :
a toy of Western.
he uses stupid people !
he got rich but always plays poors.
he is even that stupid cant remember what he said just 15 minutes ago ( we saw it on 32. gun )

-- Egitim
-- Ulasim
-- Haberlesme
-- Bilisim
-- Ordu
-- Cari denge
Metabolizmayi cokuse goturur. Buna Kanser diyoruz. Ornek cari acik. her yil %20 buyuyen bir cari acigimiz var. Cari dengeyi boylece ekonomiyi boylece diger etkenleri bozan yapi.
Tur 4 : sarmal kromozondaki sarmal sayinin bir artip ciftlenmesi. yani super gelisim. buda herhalde zimbawenin 10 yilda super guc olmasi demek olurdu.

Seeing the hatred with which some Turks refer to Erdogan I have some hopes for us....
It was Erdogan who kicked out IMF
It was Erdogan who shifted the power from the elite to the people
It was Erdogan who restored the economy
It was Erdogan who prevented a new coup-d'etat and war with greece
It was Erdogan who gave Turkey a leading role in the region...
kemalism served in the 20's, 30's - 70's because Turkey could profit from Europe. But now power shifts from Europe to the east, Europe becomes increasingly decadent and inefficient, Edogan and Davutoglu forsaw that and for your country did the right thing in order to rebirth a new ottoman-caliphate making Turkey again a regional-super-power and a global player.
Turkey and Islam are growing at the speed of light, balkans, slavs, christians, europe, greece are shrinking....in 20-30 years time if this trend continious all the above would want to appease Turkey and silently accept its ruling role in the whole balkans, but to some extent in many european countries themselves. Islam grows and beats atheism in many european countries especially in the youth...
so Erdogan is a great far-sighted leader, who treats kemalism respectfully, but knows its benefit is gone.Turkey's policy is already paying off with the new north-african states so close to Turkey than ever, balkan states want Turkey, greece-thrakya will have for the first time more Turkish MP's than greeks in the new parliament. So greece very silently and discreet has defacto given up Thrakya something that kemalists couldn't achieve in many years...
so, thank God and his Prophet that he gave you this GREAT MAN Mr. Erdogan!

Actually i never participate politic issues in WAff. But i will say my thoughts.
Tayyip is not actualy toy of Western. He perfectly used them for his and his mentality's benefits under the name of democracy, human rights, EU membership etc... Secular values of Turkish republic has been under strict protection but due to mentioned fake intentions, such dynamics has been neutralized by inside and outside preassure.
Tayyip Erdogan absulutely not a tool, as i said, he used every opportunity for his good. But Western Countries will aware their mistake by supporting him for 10 years to reduce the "ulusalcilik" in Turkey in near future.
Anyway, its non of my bussiness, Europeans lost their lifes for more than 400+ years to reduce Church's power and form a modern life. Turkish people got same (even better) rights at the beggining of 20th century without any effort thanks to M. Kemal. This is not possible. We have to suffer more to understand exactly whats the meaning of Modernizm. Its been tought us only in poems which is not enough aparently. We still have time for it but without doubt, thanks to his effort, we gained centuries to close the civilization gap. From now on, nature&time will handle the issue for us. It happened in that way, will happen in that way.
My primary duty here is representing my country. There are many other national sites around to argue about our political views or our internal matters. I think WAFF is not place for arguing abt Islamism, Kemalism..etc. We shoud be united, else will be solved naturally in time.
