Mother drowns daughter "in name of god"
A mother who drowned her seven-year-old daughter in the bath tub just before Christmas last year claimed she did it 'In the name of God' at a court in Innsbruck, Austria yesterday (Weds).
The 39-year-old Turkish born single mum held seven-year-old Selinaz' head under water until she died.
The woman named as Gulenay A, broke down in court yesterday as she recalled the tragic events.
She became depressed after her husband left her and tried to commit suicide in November last year. She was later released from the clinic and on December 20th 2011 she said she heard a voice in her head to kill 'in the name of god'.
Moments later she held her daughter's head under water until she died.
She then called her sister to tell her the child was dead.
Rescuers were then sent to the property but attempts to resuscitate the child failed.
Court psychiatrist Adelhaid Kaster ruled Gulenay A is not of stable mind to stand trial but is nevertheless a very dangerous offender. She was ruled as seriously mentally ill and could not do anything about what she claims was an order n her head.
The jury ruled unanimously she should be taken to an institution where she will receive psychiatric help.
Gulenay A said: "My daughter was everything to me. I cry for her every day.
