Toyota Motor Co. (7203), the worlds best- selling automaker in the first half of the year, is threatening to stop investing in Turkey after a number of employees filed lawsuits against it, the Star reported, without saying where it got the information.

Toyota sent a delegation to meet with officials from Turkeys Labor Ministry after an employee won 150,000 liras ($83,000) in compensation from a Turkish court for loss of feeling in a finger, prompting about 15 other employees to pursue cases against the company, the Istanbul-based newspaper said.

Toyota had earlier been accused of discriminating against employees who practice the Islamic faith, according to Star.

Toyota should invest in Greece since Greeks are more educated and don't need to be bending to Mecca a million times a day praising camel jockeys.

Toyota Denies Report it Threatened Leaving Turkey Over Lawsuits

Toyota Motor Co. (7203)s Turkish unit denied reports in the Turkish media that its threatening to stop investments in the country after a spate of worker lawsuits.

The media reports are without basis and Toyota remains committed to building on its 1.2 billion euros ($1.5 billion) in investments in Turkey, according to an e-mailed statement from Toyota Otomotiv Sanayi Turkiye AS.

Toyota did not send a delegation from Japan to Ankara and did not threaten to end investments in Turkey, the statement said.

Istanbul-based Star newspaper reported today that Toyota sent a delegation to Ankara and threatened to stop investing in Turkey after about 15 workers filed cases against it.

Toyota has had four cases related to workplace safety opened against it in about 18 years of operation in Turkey, the statement said. All of the cases were judged by courts to be without merit, it said.

Ozer: Toyota Turkey will begin adding around 800 new employees to its workforce

Hurriyet Toyotas new compact sedan, slated to enter production by 2013 at the companys Turkish plant, will create at least 800 new jobs according to Toyota Turkeys General Manager and CEO, Orhan Ozer. The Japanese car maker currently manufactures the Auris hatchback and the family saloon Verso at its plant in Sakarya in western Turkey. Ozer announced that a new sedan passenger vehicle will be added to the production line with an investment of EUR 150 million.

Beginning early next year, Toyota Turkey will begin adding around 800 new employees to its workforce at the Sakarya plant..., Ozer said adding that the exact figure of new employment may be higher as the company is still in the planning stages of the project. Noting the quality standards attained in Toyotas Turkish factory, Ozer said the Turkish plant has the highest production quality of all Toyota plants outside of Japan. Our skilled work force combined with the fully-implemented Toyota Production System is a major contributor to our success. Turkish workers loyalty and devotion to the workplace is remarkable. This is also evident in other automotive companies in Turkey like Renault, Ford, and Fiat.

Toyotas Sakarya plant in northwestern Turkey is expected to begin production of the 11th generation compact sedan by June, 2013. The plants capacity will increase to 210,000 cars per year with this new model. According to earlier statements from the companys European headquarters, Auris production will shift to the companys UK factory, while Verso production will remain in Turkey alongside the new sedan with increased utilization of locally procured parts.
