Do you really think that this is the reason that we could never be friends?Look at a map and imagine a hypothetical coalition (let's say that the countries have left NATO) among Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. A coalition that would control the Black sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and the traffic through the Suez canal (via Crete)and the traffic through the Otrando straights (via Corfu).Sush a coalition could control literally every drop of Arab oil heading to the West. Not to mention that even the USA would be unable to attack a coalition with:
-almost 500 modern fighters
-almost 40 frigates
-over state of the art 20 submarines
-Hundreds or even thousands of modern tanks and anti-aircraft systems

If you think and find out who would never want the formation of such a coalition then you will have found the answer to the one million dollar question (i.e. Why is there so much hatred between Greece and Turkey?)

Greeks do not hate the average Turk(I believe I know better than you). Greeks hate the imperialistic strategies of the Turkish state.

I'm not denying that such a "cooperation" looks good on paper. But tell me, can Greece really commit to it in a de facto fashion? Would you be willing to volunteer soldiers and equipment to protect Turkey's southeastern borders after the last 100-200 years of our history, two outright wars, a cold war and countless escalations?

I don't want to say that Turkish and Greek societies are permanently made into enemies, but there definitely is a trust issue.

Beyond that, Greece's track record in the EU is obvious. If you managed to bankrupt yourselves after billions of Euros in aid, credit and freebies and still threaten to bring down such an immense economic union as the Eurozone, why would Turkey enter into an economic agreement with Greece? What guarantees do we have that you won't again doctor your documents, make up fake statistics, etc. just to remain within an agreed upon treshold on paper?

Germany fully invaded France only 72 years ago, but only a few decades later they learned to trust each other and unite as (almost) a single country.

Can Greece and Turkey achieve the same? Or do we have too many common, strong enemies who'd rather see us remain loyal weapons customers after a century since our last war?

Bringing Turkey and Greece together requires tremendous compromises by both nations. Compromises that neither nation is willing to make right now.

The only real compromises would be for Turkey to leave any "assimilation" thoughts behind and for Greece to adopt strict economic policies for some years. But it could never happen as...

That is mainly because the media industry has no money to produce good quality Greek soaps as it did before. I should also say that Turkish soaps are of relatively good quality compared to latin ones. The producers seem to spend enough money, the stories are more or less you know classic (forbidden love etc) so all women watch tnem.
