damn... that was hard

guy dies in hospital later

"A police officer who was arrested after shooting and killing a young man in the western province of zmir during a fight earlier this week has claimed that he did not shoot the victim deliberately.
The officer, identified by the initials .K., said he shot at the legs of the victim on purpose to stop him from hitting him and his colleagues with a chair and bottles. "The man attacked us with a chair and bottles. I was stabbed in my leg. I shot his legs to stop him. Then I was hit in the head. And my gun went off. I was shocked to see that the man was shot in the abdomen. I did not shoot him [in the abdomen] on purpose. I just shot at his legs to frighten him, the officer was quoted as saying by the Akam daily.

A vehicle driven by the young man, Erhan Barlak, collided with a police car in the Karabalar district of zmir late on Sunday. Police officers attempted to make an official report and fine Barlak for driving without a license. Barlak, however, resisted, and then his brother Emrah Barlak and his friend Faruk Karhan, who were passengers in the car, joined in the altercation. The police officers attempted to disperse the group with tear gas.

Outraged, the three men attacked police officers with chairs they grabbed from a nearby café. Police officer .K. first fired into the air and at the ground in an attempt to stop the fight. Then he fired at the three men. News reports said the police officer fired eight bullets at the men. The Barlak brothers, Karhan and a passer-by, Halil Altun, were wounded. The wounded were taken to Atatürk Teaching and Research Hospital. Emrah Barlak later died at the hospital."

they are murderers, those men did not carry any weapons they could stop them in a different way

this is a profound crime, their families should sue them and demand compensations and the punishment of the guilties

not that there is any kind of justice in Turkey, but it would be worth to make an attempt though.

That's a pretty rare sight Turkish police shoots someone, especially in Western Turkey. EU integration policy has bounded hands and feet of the Turkish police.

That police officer has been sent to jail for first degree murder.

OK but my main point here is the message is "stay out of trouble", if the guy with the chair just put his head down and shut up then he would be alive today and talking about the story

The man who got shot was a maniac by no means, he had no driving licence and he hit a police car. And still, he wanted traffic police not to ticket him because he was going to be drafted by 12 August.

Just expect a random citizen encounters this kind of maniac... He doesn't even scared of police. He could do everything...

I'm not sorry for this kind of loss. Some people deserves to get shot.

OK but my main point here is the message is "stay out of trouble", if the guy with the chair just put his head down and shut up then he would be alive today and talking about the story
------------------------

sure i get your point, of course staying out of trouble is something very reasonable to do
but there are billions of reasons that somebody would not stay out of trouble

for example if somebody is drunk and he doesnt know what he is doing, the police officers will have to deal with idiots who lack in prudence almost all the time

imagine what is going to happen if they had to pull the triger every time that they feel threatened by the idiotic behavior of somebody we would count hundrends of deads every single day

my point is that a well trained police officer to deal with those kind of situations does not need to shoot because he is confident enough that his training alone will do the trick

he would only apply the kind of force that is needed, lethal force should only be used in extreme cases where the attacker uses a firearm or something that if left unopposed it will be fatal for the lives of the officers

you cannot use a firearm when somebody uses a chair or anything of the sort, the force applied to the offender should be equal to the force that he applies against you

thats an axiom, everything else is a violation of the law and you commit a crime, no matter how threatened you might feel by a situation.

Well trained police forces (nothing like Turkish or Greek police forces) can remain calm and handle such people without using guns (he didn't even hold a knife). If you observe the policeman who shot him he behaves like a cold blooded killer who tries to escape after his crime.

try assaulting an officer in united states and see what happens. they will turn you into swiss cheese.
There is no respect left for rule of law in this country, sometimes Turkish police acts very passively imo. in this case for exp, they should have pulled their guns out:

from last week in an Istanbul hospital, 10 thugs attacking two officers

If you look at the officer right to the one who shot, you can see that he is holding a pepper spray. This and some hits with the policemen truncheons would be enough.American police, though effective, has been criticized for its sometimes brutal and excessive reactions.Remember Rodney King case and what it caused...

It's not about the poor training but somehow Turkish police thinks they can solve every problem without using guns. This is why I said it's a rare sight Turkish police shoots someone in western Turkey.

That is called poor training! hehe. In Greece it is even worse as a policeman has the right to shoot only AFTER been shot!!!Crazy laws!

All the faggot regulations of AKP brought a position that no anyone listens to the police anymore, Turkish police has been passified so much that an English Bobby without weapon looks like a lion.

I wan't American standards for our police, not the gay standards we have in Turkey now.

When I was a kid there was a maniac who pulled a knife at the police in a cafe, the police directly draw his weapon an asked the guy to trow away his knife and lay face down on the ground. The guy complied immediately, nowadays that same gay would attack the police because he knows that the police can't do chit.

It's just embarrasing how police has been curtailed. If there is no respect for the police on the street, there won't be any respect for laws and there won't be respect for the state (exactly what we have in Turkey! go figure)

nutuk is completely right.

islam, general disrespect, general hubris and "delikanlilik", most often in kurds which are rebellous as is is, just make the turkish populace disrespect the police a lot.

im sure nobody will pick up a chair after seeing this video, also i think the cop should be freed

I completely agree with Nutuk. how many times we have seen our police beaten up by a mob of people.
Ok maybe shooting the guy that many times wasnt the right thing in this case but if you notice, he first shoots at his legs, but the guy and his mob are still trying to assault the officer. I dont say the guy deserved this but his action was the cause of his death.

The idiotic Turks and their stupid arguments

1) United States is not an example for imitation as far as human rights respect is concerned , as vast country with huge crime rates it is notorious for their excessive violence and use of force where it is not needed

2)Only idiotic Turks would sanctify wrong and illegal practices under the pretext that somebody else is doing it therefore it is right and legal

recently in South Africa security forces shot and killed almost 40 workers on strike because they felt threatened, you could have used this also as an example of countries which use excessive violence in order to sanctify the murderous acts of your police officers, no matter if later on the president of the country ordered an official investigation about the killings declaring in public that those responsible for the massacre will be put into trial and if found guilty they will punished.

3)to the idiotic Turk who posted the picture of the police officers who shot and killed a homeless guy because he was threatening them with a knive, they did that exactly because he was homeless and nobody would press charges against them

4)it is only half true that in United States they would shoot you even if you pull a piece of wood against them, it all depense on the circumstances and who is the offender, it has been reported that black guys especially when they are suspected for several crimes are more likely to be shot if police officers feel threatened, on the contrary white guys who seem to be drunk or to be acting according to particular circumstances are not likely to be shot

those idiots who claim that in America police officers pull the trigger whenever they feel threatened , have never been to America and they dont have a clue of what they are talking about, it is true that excessive force is being used in certain cases but it all depense on the circumstances, and the kind of the offender that they have to deal with

most of the times though police officers are very careful about what they are doing and they will shoot only if the offender is armed with a firearm.

Get your facts straight idiots before you launch your crap.

Something else which need to be said is that every country has a different level of tolerance to violence, European counries for instance do not tolerate excessive use of force as much as in United States or Russia and the legislation is very strict concerning this point,

this is because of the different demographics and different crime rates, United States is a huge country with a big population with a huge variety of criminals the same applies to Russia, therefore it cannot be compared to Europe and it wouldnt be wise to set their bad examples as a reason to justify illegal practices which lead to the loss of human lives because of certain police officers.

thats all for the moment
