Police forces attacked Taksim Gezi Park protesters at dawn with tear gas and violence for a second consecutive day this morning in a new attempt to disperse crowds protesting the planned construction of a new mall.

According to the Istanbul Chamber of Medicine, seven people have been seriously injured. Six people are suffering from serious head trauma, while a teachers leg has been broken.

Protesters have been staging an Occupy Gezi Park since May 26 to prevent the demolition of the park, and police forces continued efforts to end the protest, conducting a dawn raid similar to the one conducted on May 30.

Protesters had to escape to nearby streets to shelter from the tear gas. A wall that protesters attempted to climb over collapsed, leaving a number of people badly injured.

According to social media reports, police continued to pursue protesters in various directions after their attack on the demonstrators.

MP's tweets cause row

Meanwhile, ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Istanbul deputy irin Ünal mocked the protesters on his Twitter account, supporting the polices heavy-handed use of gas. Obviously there are some people in need of gas, Ünal posted.

If you leave there [Taksim Square] I hope you will have a good day, the system needs to be obeyed, he also tweeted. His tweets drew an intense reaction from other social media users.

The new world order police state is in place. It will only get worse and more oppressive if the people don't protest.

Very sad.

Police became AKP's enforcement arm. More people will be killed.

I am really curious on who is giving the orders to police to be so cruel.

Meanwhile the same police is also helping the wounded.

And akp will combine a new "civilian" army with weapons for universities. This is because of the protests against akpian ministers and parliamentarians who visit the universities.

AKP has already used it's "Genclik Kollari" Youth Gang in some of the previous events.

We are fast seeing a "Hitler Jugend" type of a formation, like "Tayyip Jugend" units. Rather than involving police, they will start involving their religious zealots to deal with these people.

The problem with the protest are those who protest are fringe Bull S*** leftist groups, B Grade movie actors, etc. No real people are involved.

The sleeping masses sleep.

What i dont understand is that the mayor of istanbul clearly said that no avm(shopping center) will be built in gezi park, but shortly after, the prime minister said that the residans or avm(shopping center) can be built on this area.i think that sparked the fire.I think people are fed up with shopping centesr and all these concrete buildings.
Besides, they should exchange opinions with local people and businesses before making a decision on these projects.that works like that in the west??right?

AKP is continuing to dynamite fault lines in society.

Appeasement of PKK and Kurds

Suppression of nationalism, arresting people for having Turkish flags. Banning celebration of Republic day etc.

Restrictions to every day life, alcohol bans, news blackouts etc.

Naming 3rd bridge Yavuz Sultan Selim while it is commonly known Alevi people view him as a butcher.

Supporting AQ and running into Syria mess that we cant get out of now.

Of course masses are sleeping, but damage is being done.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The government is considering to give the security of universities to the police. For now,the security is provided by private security and the rector can invite the police inside the campus if he wishes.
in the past there were police forces in universities.why do they want to go back?i know those days, during 80s and 90s in Turkish universities were not nice.the existence of police didnt help reduce the violence at all.so i dont get it?

i hope the government will leave universities as they are.the university rector can always call police when he needs.

This is not a simple anti-mall or greenpeace issue. People are watching violent police videos and pictures from internet and rage. Day by day we see gas ammunitions exploding on some protesters head, people are being arrested for protesting akpians and their so called wise people who are trying to divide the country. We witnessed the balyoz/ergenekon protests. And last years republic day... On the other hand terrorists can do what ever they want at the other side of the country.

This can not continue forever.

***AKP is continuing to dynamite fault lines in society***

What is perfectly clear outside of Turkey is perhaps concealed within Turkey. In other words, AKP wants to formulate a new turkish identity based solely on Sunni Islam. A plan that encompasses Kurds, Arabs and only Sunni Turks. The rest (Kemalists, Shiite, Alevi, etc.) have no place in AKP's future Turkey. The inflow of Saudi capital in Turkey supports this as well. AKP and its projects are financed by Saudi Sunni fundamentalists.

Viranlik is very right about our current situation! If you have a weapon or armed militia then akahpe will not touch you! Meanwhile some posters are talking of empire building! Yeah police get heavy handed in many countries so best not to get too carried away, but IMO the Turkish people should be dealing with internal threats - including factions of their own government - before looking at expansion.
