Response to 1st miscarriage/D&E questions (cross post)

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how awful it is (I have experienced 7 losses like Colleen although only 2 of them required a D&E). With my first D&E, I got my period in 6 weeks. I was told that it is normal to take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks for your period to return. With my second D&E, it took 9 weeks for AF to return. They started testing betas after 5 weeks, and they were still in the hundreds. I ended up ovulating around week 7 when my betas were under 100, and got AF when my betas were still in the teens. But AF brought the rest down of course and they went to zero.

However, like Colleen experienced, it is abnormal to have to wait so long for AF to come back, and is most likely a sign that some tissue was retained after the D&E. 99% of the time, even if there is retained tissue, it will resolve on its own though. 2 weeks is not a long time but I would recommend getting a beta test at 4 weeks, and then talking to the doc about it if the numbers are still very high.

I'm sorry for your loss. I am a poor responder too although all 7 of my pgs were naturally conceived. But I've had 1 IVF since and it was a BFN, and am gearing up for #2. Remember that all you need to find is ONE good egg.

Hang in there!
