So -- JLA is coming up fast. Bits and pieces of info have leaked, dripped, slipped, gurgled, oozed and otherwise found their way onto the internet. Some of these bits and pieces are true. Some are not.
But here's a Fun Game!
Try to guess what the Trolls are going to say about JLA before they even see it . Some have already started, of course, over on the JLA message board. The story will be "Dark Faith". There will be tons of unresolved sub-plots. It will be "typical Claremont and Byrne" -- tho one wonders what "typical" is after 25 years!!
So -- let your imaginations run wild! You know as much as the Trolls know. I'll bet you can do even better than they can! Tell us Everything That Will Be Wrong with the JLA Arc --- before it's published!
Who knows -- maybe we can beat the Trolls at their own game!
I'm betting someone's going to pull an idiot move like the guy did about Hidden Years. Y'know the one who said the first issue would've been better if they had gotten Tom Palmer to ink it, instead of letter Byrne do it himself
It's the JLA in a mystery story involving cults and vampires..... What could be cooler? Honestly the plot to me sounds really cool and something that has not been done with the JLA. I have every issue of the original series from #64 Dick Dillon's first issue to 220 something....
The plot also instroduces the characters for Title Withheld..... So it is a very impactful storyline. It's a great springboard for a new group and the plot sounds cool. I'm really psyched about this. I cannot fathom what people could be bitching about.
It is not some throw away plot or gimmick.... It's cool! How JB is going to fit the pieces together on this is really getting me exited.
I'll admit that I am not a Claremont fan and never have been so that is the only aspect of the JLA arc that does not have me exited but with the plotline being what it is and with it launching Title withheld I am anticipating something really fun!
An internet troll is someone that says stuff on the internet just to see if they can get a reaction (response). Usually, it's something mean spirited and meant to trash someone or someone's work.
Meanwhile... My troll predictions...
1. Dark Faith? Didn't you and Chris do that to Phoenix already? Are you going to kill her too? What star system or universe is SHE going to destroy?
2. What character are you going to kill this time? Manitou Raven? He's just like Thunderbird and I KNOW you two hated him because he was a Native American!
3. Who is corrupting Dark Faith? Dr. Destiny? Why can't you leave the good characters alone? And WHY do you have to kill all the good characters?
Ack... so many of those old trollings could just drive me nuts.
Me, I've been showing the individual panels to my comic shop owner, trying to get him to increase his order.
Bob came closest to addressing this, but surely someone out there will complain that JB should have taken more time to do the book as a monthly as opposed to finishing each issue from scratch in only 2 weeks a piece
1)Look at the inks! I know a friend of a friend's sister's uncle who once owned a comic book shop. And HE said Ordway borrowed John Byrne's Sharpies!
2)This one ought to be THE best-selling comic of the year....for OLD People!!!
3)Chris Claremont and John Byrne?? Everyone knows the X-Men never sold until the advent of multiple covers and the invention of "HOLO-FOIL"!
EDITED TO ADD:
This is awesome in a weird, therapeutic way! It takes away what little negative power the trolls have. Their comments will irk us much less when we are proactively anticipating them.

You all know John Bryne is drunk most of the time? I hear that he is having an operattion to remove his teeth to make it hard for him to grip a bottle? (saw it on the DC Boards)
Anyway his stuff had been no good since he stopped working with stan lee (there reuion comic was no good either.)
You do know he wanted superman to be gay, right? because if u look at his comics he always has his liberal agenda to push. It's a good thing that he's not drawing it himself(or inking as we call it in the biz) and is just doing the shading.

Spinning TITLE WITHHELD out of the JLA arc was DC's idea, not mine. I thought it was a good idea, or I would not have gone along with it, but anyone seeking my personal "agenda" in this is looking in the wrong place.
I have a serious question, why do you people go to other message boards and interact with people with that kind of mentality? After briefly skimming that DC Board thread I am convinced that the people ripping on JB for launching a new title off of JLA don't even believe what they are saying, they are just screwing with you people. And the if they actually do believe it, they should be ignored totally. Those boards cannot be treated as real feedback. You guys are gluttons for punishment. Do any of you visit Klan rallies thinking "maybe THIS time I'll be able to change their minds"?
"Wonder Woman dies...AGAIN. How many times has that happened now?"
"When I saw the black-backed 'S' on Superman, I knew it would just be a rip-off from Kingdom Come."
"I didn't buy it because it was exactly like Buffy."
Then there will be the more general chestnuts like:
"I love John Byrne but since he was working on this and Title Witheld and that 'John Cleese' project at the same time, the JLA stuff looks rushed. Obviously, his heart just isn't in it anymore."
i only pass thru the DC message boards for a good
laugh now and then. i try to remind myself that these
posters are pretty young or just "out of touch"...
...some of what they say is really dumb and i sometimes
feel tempted to respond but why bother??

That is weird. Does DC pay big bucks to host those forums? If so I guess portions of each of our DC comic book purchases go directly towards providing Trolls a place to roost.
I've never met anyone in a comics store that is that vitriolic to me over my comic book purchases. We'll see what happens when I buy my multiple copies of JB's JLA #94.
DOES DC pay big bucks to host the fourms? Aren't they still owened by AOL/Time/Warner? Wouldn't they get at least a discount on hosting a web-site?
Now, I'm no business major, but I seem to recall hearing that AOL was dropped from that megacorporation - but still...Warner Brothers? I think they probably have a few bucks to spare, no?
I don't post this to be sarcastic - I'm actually asking - don't they?

Rich,
I don't interact. I just go over there from time to time to check out if people have information on books I'm reading or considering reading. I posted that link because it was completely ludicrous and fitted with the title of this thread.
Oh yeah and I like to go to clan rallies singing Sly Stone's 'Don't Call Me Nigger Whitey' .
I heard that John Byrne cares about his profession, has a solid work ethic, tries to make it so the toys in the sandbox are still in good shape for the next person to play with, and that he draws well.
"The pacing is too fast. It's not very cinematic."
"The characters are talking while they do everything. That's unrealistic."
"The Justice League fits into the classic sci-fi genre power of human theme. How can they mess it up with all of this SUPERNATURAL STUFF?"
"I guess the old-school comic stuff is okay, but shouldn't we worry about the penadalum swinging too far?"-canabalized version of quote found on message board that thread about cover's with captions linked to.
"Haven't they heard of characterization?"-I'm guessing Superman will not become a cocaine delaer, so this is my best prediction of troll complaint.
"They should focus more on internal conflict and use less thought ballons."-I'm against burning literature, but if i had to burn one kind . . .
When did Byrne and Claremont ever produce anything of significance?
******
That one I have actually seen, as a general comment, not specific to the JLA, and referencing Chris and me together and separately.
I file it under a kind of "reverse expert" mentality. I have noted those "fans" who itch and groan when the least little comma is changed, because it means they are no longer complete Experts on a character. In this case, I think we are seeing people who "missed it the first time" trying to dismiss the work they did not experience first hand. "If it came out before I was reading, it does not count."
You can all remember a certain Spider-Man "fan" who was the poster child for this kind of thinking, I am sure.
