Byrne's version was a regular, if courageous, teen learning to become a super-heroine. Now she's been dolled up, made taller and skinnier, and given a boob job. She's the super-powered Britney Spears.
In other words, she sucks now.
Edited to add - Sorry, Geoff and Peter, but she really does.

She didnt need a boob job. She could have just gone through puberty you know
*****
And pretty soon someone will decide that she is far too va-voomy to be called WonderGIRL, so she's start calling herself Glamazonia or somesuch, and a new WonderGIRL will have to be created, and she too will "grow up" and have to be called something else. . .
And this is how Wally West becomes the Flash and Batman becomes, realistically, 79 years old.
I like the figure. The only thing they missed was the new lasso... of course you would have to be able to plug it into a socket to get a proper shock. As for the boobs, how else is she going to appeal to the boobs?
Seems to me that Cassie has become a Donna Troy stand-in (just like the current Wally West is a stealth Barry Allen). Which is a shame, because as much as I like Donna, I found JB's Cassie to be a unique creation.

It was very courageous to make a regular, normal-looking girl a superhero. I like Cassie just fine now (even though she does look like Britney-Bot 2000...but my ramble about how Britney Spears became more machine than "man" years ago is a whole 'nother thread), but JB's original concept was definitely more interesting.
She grew, but her shirt shrank. I think this is a hidden power that'll be revealed later on. The Teen Titans will get stuck in the Arctic, Cassie will shrink back down to get into a shirt that fits and Superboy will realize he's a pedophile. Maybe she could deage herself back to infancy so they can use her magical shirt as a tarp. Hmmmmmm.......
"The Teen Titans will get stuck in the Arctic, Cassie will shrink back down to get into a shirt that fits and Superboy will realize he's a pedophile."
Why would Superboy be a pedophile? He's even younger than Kid Flash.
I personally don't see much of a problem with Cassie's new Britney/fitness model look. Girls achieve puberty faster than boys and there's no telling how having the power of the gods would further affect her.
Superboy is a clone who was aged to the equivalent of a high-schooler.
Cassie, going by JB's cover at the top of this thread would be in middle school, at best, if my little (supposed to be funny) "discovery" would be true.
It was a throw-away, ha-ha, comment Darin. Do you really need it explained or debated?

Even if this is correct, it means Superboy is younger than Cassie. So how could he be a pedophile for dating her?

Well, I just thought a pedophile was an adult who lusts after a minor... not a minor who lusts after a minor. So the "joke" didn't make sense to me and was therefore not humorous. Call me crazy.
this is sort of germane to this. Kitty & Cassie are sort of JB's "kids"
I recently heard a comic mention that his job as a daddy is to make sure his daughter stays off the pole. (meaning a stripper's pole) Clearly the new step-dad's to JB's kids WANT them on the pole.
I argued a bit with the good folks at Newsarmama about this. Seems like one of their deep, deep WW misgivings is how "tomboyish" Cassie was. I pointed out that Cassie was a character that teens could truly relate to; there are more than enough sexy heroines us thirtysomething male fans can preoccupy ourselves with. But to no avail.
Wait ... they didn't like a tomboy superheroine? I would think it more likely that the tomboys would become action heroes than, say, the cheerleaders...

As I noted in another thread -- and as I discovered when I was doing WONDER WOMAN -- there is a very vocal subset of fandom (Dear God I HOPE it's a subset) who are absolutely terrified of female characters who are even remotely "boyish". If it's not hair down to the ass and boobs out to next Wednesday, they will declare the character "looks like a man" -- as, indeed, they said of my interpretation of Wonder Woman when I started on the book. Literally. "Looks just like Superman" (who had long hair at the time! Oh no!!)
Can there really be people who are so unsure of their own sexuality that a drawing is threatening to them? Are they the same people, I wonder, who declare their desire to have sex with the drawings that pass their approval?
JB,
Do you get some kind of residuale for these dolls and such as the creator of the new Wonder Girl? All this newfound popularity might bring me in $2.00 for my "mint" copy of WW113!

Not that I am aware of. Sometimes there are what I call "mystery checks" which cover royalties and residuals for God Knows What (best not to ask!!), but I have never been aware of anything specifically toy related.
(I do sort of hope the JLA arc sells well enough to inspire a few toys, tho! The villain is kinda cool!)
In all fairness, Cassie played an important role in Peter David's Titans and the gradual change of the character worked rather nicely. Yes, of course there always are aging-problems when you deal with teenagers growing up a bit, but Peter kept it (IIRC) fairly timeless, more a process of a young girl maturing instead of aging.
It's not just the girls. Superboy in Teen Titans seems equally more mature than when Kesel and Grummett were doing his adventures. And this seems to have basically happened post Young Justice.
No matter how young they start, it takes no time to get kid heroes to at least senior year of high school.

It may have worked for us adult fans. But the early teen audience has lost a character they can discover and say "hey, that's me too" (if such an audience even exists anymore, though they may have still been around in the mid-90's when Cassie was introduced.)

I liked some of the changes to Cassie's character in YJ. She became more assertive in some ways, and more sure of her abilities, and the first costume change (seen in the "Olympics" cover) seemed in keeping with her personality. She still expressed self-doubt to her closest friends, though, and also was very critical of her own looks. There was a lot of the "tomboy" in her still.
The physical transformation, though, was ridiculous. While true that girls can mature very quickly, I've never seen it happen that fast. Even her hair grew at an amazing rate!!
I like the Titans version of Cassie, a very strong character as portrayed by Geoff Johns.
Shouldn't Kitty only be 13 still, I mean Franklin is still 4 1/2 and he was 4 1/2 during JB's run and Defalco's run and into Claremont's run, though he seems to have aged a bit to about 6 or 8, which means Kitty should be MAYBE 17.

Heh, I just thought of that. So Peter David had her change outfits, and then she became this Britney copy when appearing in Teen Titans. But that would mean complaining on Geoff Johns instead of PAD, so I guess that should simply be ignored...
By the end of Young Justice she had already transformed into the "Britney" version. Check out the covers above. The only alteration done by Johns and McKone was to change the costume around some to make it resemble Donna Troy's a bit more.
kind of off topic but:
"Well, I just thought a pedophile was an adult who lusts after a minor... not a minor who lusts after a minor. So the "joke" didn't make sense to me and was therefore not humorous. Call me crazy."
You do not know what the word pedophile means. Pedophile is one who "fantasizes" or acts out about sexual situations with Children. (pre-puberty only).
The legalities of being a "minor" are different from state to state and VERY different from country to country. But a minor depending on the state you live in can be well through puberty and therefore not eligible to be the object of pedophilia.
sorry Pete-peve cuz that word is soo abused. My cousins PHD thesis was on this
