Ed Wood is always invoked when folk set out to make a "deliberately bad" movie --- but it's not really fair to do so. Wood was so phenomenally untalented that he actually sucked talent out of other people, creating vast quantities of negative mass, but everything he did (at least before he got into the Nudies) he did with sincerity and the genuine belief that he was making good movies.
Indeed -- and just recently for the umpteenth time, with the DVD release. Not a whole lot in common with the actual facts, of course, but a terrific evocation of time and place. (I visited Los Angeles in 1960, and some of those street scenes are so spot on I can almost see myself as a 10 year old in the shot!)
Check out the documentary "Look Back in Angora" for the truer, sadder tale of Ed Wood's real life.
JB,
You must have picked up the ED Wood DVD before Disney had it pulled. Those copies are now going for $50-100 on ebay. Disney didn't give any official reason for pulling the DVD and no official rerelease date for the ED Wood DVD. I hope they decide to rereleae it soon, I am looking forward to seeing it.
One rumor is Tim Burton didn't like something in the transfer or supplimentals on the DVD. Though it is more likely Disney didn't have the rights to something in the extras and lawyers are involved. You know the problems lawyers can cause.
I looked at ebay again and the prices for the DVD is $50 and under now. Though when the DVD first hit the streets and then Disney pulled it I did see $100 for one on ebay.
Be seeing you,
Brian
