OK it's tough to pick just one but for me it would be Ultra Boy.
Lightning Lad was my first favorite due to Dave Cockrum's AWESOME costume design and Timber Wolf was COOL and a very, very close second but Ultra Boy for me was too cool!
Superboy 137 by Jim Starlin where Ultra Boy is framed for murder is one of my favorite books of all time.

My favorite Legionnaire is the fictitious "Ear-Fall-Off Floyd," created in parody by Mercy Van Vlack and the great Legion fandom of the early seventies.
I can still remeber the story "Superboy's Big Brother", and Mon-El's later rescue by the Legion.
I never understood why the Legion didn't go back in time and rescue him from the Phantom Zone earlier, instead of waiting for 1000 years, though.
I did like the Giffen "adult Legion" series, however, despite everything; and they did give Mon-El a suitable send-off when he destroyed the Time Trapper at the price of loosing his own history.

I've been a fan of the Legion for as long as I can remember and I always thing of them as a group. To break it down to one, I'd have to single out the guy who started it all... Superboy.
Monel. The guy was A MAN when most of the others were boys. I liked his pragmatism, especially in the older issues when Shooter was writing him (sorry JB). He just had an edge that Superboy didn't.

While Supergirl and Superboy are among my all time favorite superheroes, I don't really think of them as 'of the Legion' because they're both so much bigger than being part of a team (even though they were excellent as part of a team).
Having said that, I'd have to say SUN-BOY!

Probably Wildfire, due to his tragic love affair with Dawnstar. He's insecure because he feels he can never really love Dawnstar like a man; he's an energy being in a containment suit.
One of my favorite characters from the Levitz-Giffen run.
For the nature of the character: Brainiac 5. I love the socially awkward genius.
For the name: Star Boy. I'm Keller, he's Kallor. And I also love that Starfield costume. One of the best costumes in the history of comic book hero-dom.

Never been a huge fan of The Legion. Don't know why. They just never "clicked" with me. That said, I read "The Great Darkness Saga" when it came out oh so many years ago and became a fan of the original Wildfire with this issue:
1) Timber Wolf
2) Ultra Boy
3) Wildfire
4) Karate Kid
5) Supergirl (I would really have liked to have seen Supergirl play as prominent a role in the Legion (over the long-term) as Superboy, even better would have been to have the series primarily be a Supergirl series. Her own silver-age stories left much to be desired.

I have to agree with Eric Lund here, Superboy 237 was an Ultra Boy showcase, one of my all-time favorites. Ultra Boy was always my favorite because he had to think about which one of his powers he was going to use. Superboy 205 also had a great Ultra Boy story where he was being injected with a "madness" drug in order to cover for the mysterious "Master," who was about to ship all the Legionnaires off to another world where he was going to enslave them and breed them into a master race. Great stuff!

So naturally I'm compelled to stand my ground when I side with the others in saying the original Wildfire. I not only liked his tragic romance with Dawnstar, but he also went through a suit every two issues. Talk about giving it your all.

Of the classic Legion; Chameleon Boy, Star Boy and Supergirl have always been favorites of mine, and Sensor Girl quickly joined them when she was introdused.
In the post-Zero Hour Legion it's XS, Gates and Shikari that ranks among my favorites.

If you really want to thank it, you can remember his name was Proty. Your misspelling of his name is an insult to sentient protoplasmic metamorphs across the galaxy.

Seriously, thanks Ray - I hadn't caught that til after I posted and was thinking about it while driving to work. Ack! Proty was the one with the sacrifice, Proty 2 was a cheap knock-off, and Proto was a figment of my imagination... a crazy figment!
