OT: A Test

-

A friend, who's obsessed with self-improvement, sent me this. I got a 40.

Dr. Phil's Test
Here ya go ... try this. Below is Dr.. Phil's test.
(Dr. Phil scored 55--he did this test on Oprah -- she
got a 38.) Some folks pay a lot of money to find this
stuff out. Read on, this is very interesting! Don't
be overly sensitive!

The following is pretty accurate and it only takes 2
minutes. Take this test for yourself and send it to
your friends. The person who sent it placed their
score in the subject box.

Please do the same before forwarding to your friends.
Don't peek but begin the test as you scroll down and
answer. Answers are for who you are now...... not who
you were in the past. Have pen or pencil and paper
ready. This is a real test given by the Human
Relations Dept. at many of the major corporations
today. It helps them get better insight concerning
their employees and prospective employees.
It's only 10 simple questions, so...... grab a pencil
and paper keeping track of your letter answers. Make
sure to change the subject of the e-mail to read YOUR
total. When you are finished, forward this to
everyone you know, and also send it to the person who
sent this to you. Make sure to put YOUR score in the
subject box.

Ready?? Begin...

POINTS:
1. (a) 2 (b) 4 (c) 6
2. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 7 (d) 2 (e) 1
3. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 5 (d) 7 (e) 6
4. (a) 4 (b) 6 (c) 2 (d) 1
5. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 2
6. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 2

9. (a) 7 (b) 6 (c) 4 (d) 2 (e) 1
10. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 6 (f) 1

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should
"handle with care." You're seen as vain,
self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others
may admire you, wishing they could be more like you,
but don't always
trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved
with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly
volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural
leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not
always the right ones. They see you as bold and
adventuresome, someone who will try anything once;
someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure.
They enjoy being in your company because of the
excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively,
charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting;
someone who's constantly in the center of attention,
but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to
their head. They also see you as kind, considerate,
and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up
and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious,
careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted,
or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes
friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's
extremely loyal
to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty
in return. Those who really get to know you realize
it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends,
but equally that it takes you a long time to get over
if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking
and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely
careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really
surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or
on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine
everything carefully from every angle and then,
usually decide against it. They think this reaction
is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous,
and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who
always wants someone else to make the decisions & who
doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything!
They see you as a worrier who always sees problems
that don't exist. Some people think you're boring.
Only those who know you well know that you aren't.

Can't do the test -- the last question does not have an answer I can pick.

At least I'm not Oprah.

Pretty accurate, although I have some qualities associated with 31-40, so it's not a perfect system!

I'm another who can't do the test. My main problem is with question 3. I don't do any of those things when talking to people.

Also question 10 assumes that I often dream, but I don't think I do. If I do, I rarely remember anything about it when I wake up, so I can't answer the question.

I scored a 40. The description also suits me to a T. Kinda spooky.

Also question 10 assumes that I often dream, but I don't think I do. If I do, I rarely remember anything about it when I wake up, so I can't answer the question.

Then you should probably answer that one with "e) you usually have dreamless sleep", dontcha think?

 *****

There is a profound difference between not remembering one's dreams and not dreaming at all. The former means the system works as it has evolved to work, the latter is a sure route to psychosis.

"Dr. Phil" should know this, and it is an indication of the kind of quackery one so often finds in these tests that "I don't remember my dreams" is not a choice.

I had the most trouble...

February 24 2004, 10:03 AM

...with this question:
8. Which of the following colors do you like most?
a) Red or orange
b) black
c) yellow or light blue
d) green
e) dark blue or purple
f) white
g) brown or gray

For some reason, this made me pause the most - in what context do I prefer certain colors?
When I'm picking out my clothes to wear?
When I'm trying to find the "right" color for a font?
When I'm eating Skittles or M&Ms?

Maybe it'd be more interesting (and measurable) to ask if you like Contrasting colors more than Complimentary colors?

Eh, it's all a crapshoot...

Going by sheer instinct, I scored a 47.
I'm not "in the center of attention" - well, maybe for this single post!

On my test, I assumed "dreamless sleep" meant "I don't remember my dreams"...but yeah, they aren't the same thing. That was badly phrased if that's what they meant.

Don't we dream all the time anyway? It's just a matter of remembering them or not.

I don't remember my dreams very often at all unless I have an extremely vivid one. (I do get a kick out of listening to my 4-year old recount her dreams though!)

Ah, yeah, I guess so. Don't think I got that far though. I read where it says "You often dream that you are..." and I thought "Well, none of these are going to apply to me!"

this test has been floating around the net for several years attributed to several other "Doctors"...according to Snopes( http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/trivia/philtest.asp ), there's no real evidence of Dr. Phil presenting it on either Oprah's or his own show...

These little tests are always fun, sometimes frighteningly accurate, but far from comprhensive. There are so many gray, in between answers...

JB complains that there is no "I Don't remember my dreams" answer... there also is no "I remember my dreams in such excruciating detail as if they were real and I am often conscious that I am dreaming while I am dreaming."

The color green...I ask which green? The color of grass? Grass where? In which month? I love the color green the water was at a park on the Bruce Peninsula in Canada in November on a cloudy day at about 8:30 AM.

Questions three and ten didn't have an answer that fit me. I keep my hands at my side when I talk to people, and I dream stories. Not falling or being chased type stuff. When I'm working really hard, I dream about making lines with my brush.

Re: OT: A Test

I scored 46, which seems to have some element of truth to it, considering how often come to me to complain and or cry!

However, I have huge problems with this test. For one thing, I can't accept color preference as a strong indicator of personality. I like blue. Why? Because I have a mild form of red-green color blindness, so I naturally gravitate towards a color I can see more reliably.

Plus, for me the last question was practically a random choice, since the dreams I remember fit evenly into categories a through d, along with occasionally f.
