Cleaning off my drawingboard this morning I found a large sheet of paper buried under all the rubble. One one side was this, one of the first of the recreations/commisions:
. . . and on the other was this, a pencil page from HIDDEN YEARS that serves as yet another example of how I incorporated 3D models into that work:

For the x-men 141 cover re-creation, how do you proceed with the layout. Do you use a lightbox and the pre-existing material (or some similar repro tech), or do you just doodle and see where you end up?

First, PLEASE do not ask questions that are phrased as answers. You have no idea how annoying that is!
Second -- I scanned the published cover, and used PhotoShop to knock the image back to a barely visible pattern of tiny dots, which I then xeroxed onto art board (at original, not reproduction size) and used that as the layout.
I've often wondered if comic artists keep track of their re-creations. JB, do you know how many times you have reproduced this particular cover (if at all before this one)? Seems to me like you could LIVE off of these.
When Jim Warden, my art dealer, finally convinced me to try my hand at a few recreations, I remembered Dick Sprang telling me how it seemed he had done 100 such copies of the "Joker's Ultility Belt" BATMAN cover -- and I resolved in that moment that I would never do more than one recreation of the same piece.
Thanks for sharing these!
JB, question for you or anyone who can help...
For some reason images from you don't load completely on my system. It appears to be an issue only with images you have posted. Everyone elses load completely. Does anyone else encounter this? Is it a Mac vs PC thang?
Thanks in advance if you can help me out!

I'm having the same problem, and it's annoying! I really wanna see those pics completely. As it is now, the first picture stops loading at about the point where we see young Kitty's face on the poster.
My home machine is running XP and has a 56k modem.
My work machine is running NT 4.0 and has a T1 line.
It sounds like the speed of the modem maybe the key, although I've never seen a situation where a graphic just loads halfway. It wasn't just loading slowly either--it just stopped dead!
My theory would be that the problem is related to the MaxMTU packet size settings. This could cause some images to load partially, or not at all (you'd get a little X). It's not a very common problem but it's the only thing I've ever seen that causes partial loading of images.
Try setting your MaxMTU to 576. There is a tool called "Dr. TCP" that can help you acomplish this. When I've done that in the past, it has cleared up the problem.
E-mail me if you need more info on where to download, etc.
Nope, never seen that happen anywhere else either... it's only ever afflicted me on this forum, and as I said the problem disappeared when I had ADSL installed (although occasionally I'll still see an image as just a box with a red X through the middle - right-clicking and selecting "Show Picture" then brings the image into view).
I'd like to say that Jeff is correct in his analysis, but I must confess to never having even heard of MaxMTU packet sizes
Thanks for the input everyone...
I too am just getting half or 3/4 of the JB uploaded images.
I am running W2K Pro at 56K also. It would seem strange indeed that connection speed would account for the problem since it happens only with images uploaded by the Main Mugwump himself and happens nowhere else and nowhen else. But I will look into it, especially if you speedy types aren't having the same problem.
Thanks!
I sometimes had the same problem with images loading only halfway (or less) when I was on 56k dialup, but now that I'm on broadband, thay load faster than I can see!
Brian, I already did the "Properties" thing to no avail at the shop.
Here at home, it loads fine! Yay!
Nice work, JB!!
Edited to add: JB, sorry to go on about the software discussion, but I really wanted to see the pictures you posted. It's always frustrating when I'm prepared to view a cool image and it stops loading.

It's 'reward' enough having the oppertunity to have dialogue with you but your posting artwork goes far and beyond 'giving' to your fans.
I'm posting -also- to remark on the beautiful nuances you fit into your characters. I'll not pamper your ego by saying -every- time but for example here on this random XMHY page, characters playing with their hair -appearing- coy; the way that Alex -appears- assertive throughout the entire page, culminating in the grabbing and pulling.
Everything about Polaris* is tentitive. Brilliant.
You even worked in -two- splits in her skirt, that was for me to drool over wasn't it;-)
Many regards,
Darren.
* I think it's Polaris, I can't remember off hand and I'm at work so can't check:-(
Edited- to add note about Polaris.
