That's pretty cool to see such an international John Byrne fan base!

Funny thing is, that looks just like the corner table at a small Japanese restaurant I sometimes eat at in the Stamford Mall. . .

I am the one holding DANGER UNLIMITED.
Actually, we passed on Japanese food tonight. That's a burger joint you see us in. American chain, I reckon.
However, we agree to buy the sushi if JB comes over.

Best regards all,

fmms

Flavio, you can't fool us. You're probably at a McDonalds in downtown Chicago.

Hey, is that Ditko's Avenging World TPB lying there on the table?

Just curious.

Does anyone know of another message board where the feeling of community is so strong, members meet each other frequently, like they do here? Seriously, I'm sort of a net novice, in many respects, but this is quite extraordinary, isn't it?

Alô, Pedro!
Actually, most people here are surprised to find out I am Brazilian, since they're mostly used to Japanese-Brazilians (Nikkeys). Little known fact: there are about 270 thousand Nikkey-Brazilians in Japan, by last count. I am usually mistaken for Persian or Israeli. Last week someone asked if I was Italian-American, right after I finished a six-episode SOPRANO binge. BADA-BING!

Whereabouts in Brazil are you from?

Little known outside Japan or Brazil, I would guess.
On the other hand, I do have a Japanese-Brazilian
girlfriend...

In Japan, you certainly are an unusual sight.

Well, I live in Rio de Janeiro, but actually I'm from
Lisbon, Portugal. I'm a portuguese living in Brazil
since childhood.

Of course, 20+ years of Rio de Janeiro make me more
of a carioca than a portuguese...

Best,

Is there anyone in the vicinity of Erie, PA? I feel like I'm on an island up here...

Actually, we passed on Japanese food tonight.

To paraphrase Chandler from the Friends episode where Ross goes to China and Joey tells him to eat "Chinese food" ("The One Where Rachel Finds Out")... "Of course, over there they'd just call it 'food'."

Well, we have now had meetings in Japan, Brazil, New York, L.A., and Toronto is coming up, I believe. I think that's pretty cool. Any other Byrne victim meetings I've missed?

Well, I hope to meet Fabrice later this month in Amsterdam! That world traveller
But we met before and not sure you could call it an "official" Byrne Board meeting. Although it is our affection for John Byrne comic art/writing that brings us together.

Well, the widow* of one of my Art College classmates currently lives in Denver. . . .

*Yes, widow. A couple of years ago a young (25) lady I knew commented that she was going to have a very busy summer, she had so many weddings to attend. "Ah, yes," I said, "you're entering the season in which your friends are starting to get married. I'm entering the season in which my friends are starting to die!"
