If Not Here, Where? (Fan art post)

I drew this about a year ago and stuck it in the closet. I ran across it tonight and thought, well, I actually want to show it to someone who might get the point -- such as it is.

I always loved the cover to X-Men 112 -- But more in concept than execution. I always wished that Wolverine's mask were more on-model, that Magneto had a more JB style helmet, and lots of gripes like that.

So one day I took it upon myself to do the version I wanted to see. I showed it to my wife who shrugged. None of my old cronies from middle school are in contact with me anymore (they really would have LIKED this, I just know it).

But I've seen other "fan" art up here lately, so I thought I might find some appreciative eyes here. Maybe someone else around here had this same itch to see a different version of this classic cover..? (Right).

So here is Haslett trying to channel Byrne, after Perez.

(Sorry for the lousy quality of the .jpg -- it's a digital photo because I don't have a scanner.)

That's cool. It's my "first" comic, so that's really a special cover to me. If I could draw at all, I'm sure I would have done something like that myself, years ago. I wonder who in the world has the original to that?

Nice job!

Not long ago, I recolored the cover of a late 1980s' "Uncanny X-Men" in the computer because I hated the original job and I was curious to see how it looked with a different coloring job.

If any of you are curious, it was the cover with Rogue unconcious (curiously in a "Vogue" pose, still) about to be hammered by the Master Mold, who has Psylocke (the original British version) in his grasp.

Is it just me, or did coloring on comic book covers, particularly at Marvel, really decline in quality in the late 1980s' to early 1990s'? I saw some 1960s' comics with fantastic coloring jobs that put any Marvel cover from 1987 to 1992 to shame.

Anyway, that coloring on "Uncanny X-Men" (#245??) was just ugly, second only to another X-Men cover of the period with Longshot on the cover, colored dark purple(!) and fighting some spirits.
