So here are the questions I WON'T be answering about the new DOOM PATROL series:
Names, looks, powers of new members.
Ditto of new villains.
Whether any old villains or DP members will be reintroduced.
Anything about the stories themselves.
(And this is not a challenge to try to find ways around those, or to find questions you think I won't want to answer but now "have to" because I didn't list 'em.)
I'll just settle for congrats. I loved the DP Origins issue that came out years ago, and always thought you'd be a good fit for the series (well, honestly I can't think of too many titles you WOULDN'T be a good fit for, but DP especially). I'm glad DC is taking another chance on the Patrol, and I'll definately be there to see.
BTW: My comic store attendance has been sporadic lately. Did JLA ship today or does it ship tomorrow? When can I actually buy the thing?
I suppose there are a couple of obvious questions (that may have been answered elsewhere) that I hope John doesn't mind me asking...
How much of the work are you doing (script, inks, etc) and if your not doing a certain roll then who is?
Who's the editor?
Do I need to have read any previous incarnations of the Doom Patrol?
You do not need to have read any of the previous DOOM PATROL iterations -- tho that does not mean you cannot do so, simply for pleasure!
I am writing and penciling the books. Lettering and coloring in-house at DC. Mike Carlin editing. DC has not yet announced the inker (tho I know who it is, of course -- I think he's on the 3rd issue by now!) so I will not step on their toes here.
Was all this time before revealing the title DC's doing? I know how you still like surprises in comics, so it was hard for me to tell. DC tends to not be so secretive about future releases.

I know this is a dream project for you, JB. And I wager you've got something "above and beyond" your normal tremendous efforts invested in this series.
Congratulations and thanks for making this so much fun.
There has always been something that resonated with the idea of The Doom Patrol and I'm hoping you will have captured that when I read the books.
I am saddened by the necessity of turning Gar Logan into a continuity orphan but only because the most poignient ideas with the character was his constant loss of those he loves - The loss of his parents, the loss of the Doom Patrol and especially Rita (his adoptive mother and the only DP member to actually show him love), and finally the betrayal and loss of Terra.
Geoff Johns is writing a Beast Boy origin tale in Teen Titans 13 which will be on the shelves in July. Now that is timing...

To be honest, I don't know a lot about the ORIGINAL Doom Patrol beyond the basics. So, personally speaking, I'm just going to be interested in meeting them for the first time (with a modern twist). It's going to be a lot of fun finding out all the answers in June...
First of all, thank you! Really looking forward to this book.
Not sure if this relates to the stories themselves or not.... You had mentioned during the chat session this will be a "Wonder Woman" type of reboot. To what degree? And any relation whatsoever to previous incarnations of DP?
"You do not need to have read any of the previous DOOM PATROL iterations -- tho that does not mean you cannot do so, simply for pleasure! "
I'm very glad to hear that (although I think all your books are accessible to new readers, unlike most modern comics). I've never actually read a Doom Patrol comic, although I'm sure I'll be looking at some Archive Editions come June...
This is soooo neat!! I have been wanting to see you take a swing at Doom Patrol since the summer of 1995 when you talked about the "Doom Patrol/FF/X-Men connection/inspiration". My knowledge is very limited but I am sure this will lead to no problems for me.
Two questions.
1.) Most of the time when a book get canceled it seems that the publishers are very hesitant to "re-launch" the book too soon. DC's last attempt at a DP book saw its last issue not too long ago (does any one know 12 or 15 months maybe???). Did you convince DC to let you give this a shot or.....how did it happen.
2.) Will we see amy mainstreem DCU characters show up in the fist 5 issues??
Any how this is THE DC title second to none (well.....maybe Metalmen..on sertain days) that I really would like to see you produce. This is such good news I do not know what to say.
2) What levels of awesomeness do you imagine DOOM PATROL will achieve?
3) The manner in which DOOM PATROL awesomes, will that be awesomely?
4) If you had to chose one word in which to describe DOOM PATROL vis a vis its ability to make its readers full of awe, what would that awesome word be?
Sounds like we have the makings of a major series here, kind of deja vu. Jb working with his best editor on characters closely resembling the X-Men but not so laden with the current BS and JB having something of a renessaince in his career with his upcoming JLA work... HOT HOT HOT!

******Relaunching so soon was the idea of The New Guy, Dan DiDio. Dan is shaking the tree up at DC, in terms of some long held "traditions".

******Batman, Green Lantern and J'Onn J'Onzz are in the first 2 issues. Since she is a member of the JLA, I guess Faith qualifies as "main stream". and she will have a protracted supporting role in DPATROL.
