Did anybody else notice that the Flash referred to Batman as "Bats" in JLA #94? I had to chuckle at this -- I presume this was Claremont's handiwork, and not JB's.
Actually(!!) the Flash as he is presently being written probably would call Batman "Bats". For him, it would be an unconscious effort to level the playing field.
I still had to chuckle, given your take on terms like "Supes" and "Bats."

I dislike being called "Johnny" and have since I was a child, but I have a good friend and neighbor who calls me nothing else. From him it's acceptable. If the mailman started calling me "Johnny" that would be something else.
EXACTLY! Same here, JB -- some people can get away with calling me "Johnny," but if other people do it (especially those who don't know me very well), it REALLY raises my ire!
-- JCB ("Only Supes, Bats, and JB get to call me 'Johnny' -- 'cause I'm Superman's Pal, Johnny Bodin!")

I was called "Martin" up until high school, then became "Marty." Come college, it was "Martin" again, by the end of graduate school up until now, it's "Marty." I'm not entirely sure how that happened, either.
More on topic, I didn't even pick up on the "Bats" quote. But then, there's a difference between a creator having an opinion and a character he writes having that same opinion!
As a side note...
i think I'm gonna start signing my posts by my real name, Lee Stone, since most everyone else does it. And I've been here a while to be comfortable.
I'm sorry, John.
I got into the habit of using Kossori as my name since I first got on the internet. It bacame my internet persona as I started doing reviews on the local comic shop's website.
It got to where no one would know who I was if I didn't call myself Kossori.
And then it bacame more personal as I couldn't let go of it...
I continue to sign in as "Doc Martin," which is not technically my name (although I have a doctorate, so it's not a completely made up pseudonym). I always sign my full name in the body of my posts.
Is this all kosher, or should I do away with the "Doc Martin" altogether?
I hate being called Mikey. Mostly because it is never "Yo Mikey, Lets go play ball!" It's "Hey Miiiiiiiikey" and that just grates. Also the whole Life Cereal gag that follows you like plague.
I have only been accepting of two people calling me Mikey. One was my late sister who only sometimes did it to annoy me and the other a friend who only did it as a slight tease until he found a better name to tease me with.

I'm like, the littlest manager in the Tower SF Bay Area region, and we recently had a big manager meeting, and my assisstant manager refered to me as "Mikey O" to the whole crowd, and I turned six or seven shades of red - and I still get called "Mikey O" by the other managers when they call or write.
Luckily, Brendan doesn't contract into an common diminutive. I have accepted "Bren" as a nickname over the past few years, though I think I prefer a simple "B" above all else.
One thing I cannot stand is being called by my last name. The rich jocks in my high school all referred to each other by last names, and it irked the hell out of me. It doesn't help that I have no great love for my father's family. Pain has been inflicted on those impolite souls who refuse my polite requests. Grrr....
JB, I thought the art and story on "JLA" was fanatstic. There was one thing I wanted to ask you about, though, that seemed out of place.
Atom is talking with Martian Manhunter about shrinking done to examine Manitou Raven's casting stones. Martian Manhunter asks the Atom if such an action is wise. Atom answers, "What's that word mean exactly when you apply it to folks like us? We run around in skintight uniforms, for crying out loud!..."
I wondered if it was Chris Claremont that put it in the script, or did you intend for the Atom to say that?
I feel certain there were things that Chris wrote in the script that JB didn't intend, but Chris was the scripter. Ditto that Jerry drew things that JB didn't intend, in the inking. This was a team effort. That said, there were minor things I didn't like from members of the team, but as a whole I thought it was very good, and I'm sucked into the story now. I want more.

Pure, unadulterated Claremont.

Just curiously, what did you have in mind for that passage, dialog-wise? FWIW, I thought Claremont's dialog sounded okay overall, but I was aware of places where the dialog was most likely pure Chris. That said, I didn't think Ray Palmer's response was very out-of-character, but then again, I'm not all that familiar with Ray Palmer's latest persona as most recently portrayed (i.e., within the last 15 years or so).
Except for the Doom Patrol pages, I gave Chris pretty minimal suggestions. Most of them you will still be able to read when we get around to posting the JLA94 pencils.
