Any Sopranos Fans Out there?

I was satisified with the Season 5 Opener on from last Sunday. It was not a 5-star show but it was great to see a new episode.

My two favorite scenes - AJ and the Bear (sweet 70s show reference) "Mommy, Mommy" I am from Alaska, my knowledge of scaring off bears does not include yelling at the top of my lungs while my mom bangs pans around. Although the bears we have hear are frightfully more aggressive. One of the mobsters tells another to run down hill from a bear since they cannot do so due to thier body type. Please, don't do this! Bears run like 18-wheelers, they are slow to start but if the get going downhill it is like watching a ton of fur and teeth running to you to make you a lunch item.

"Your Prince of Tides" - Heh, Tony can be such a kidder.

Like I said it wasn't perfect but it sets up the season. Next week looks like someone familar is going to get whacked.

Sure glad I got the TiVo now!

I am a Sopranos fan. I liked the season opener but I do hope this season has the mafia act more like the mafia than they did last season. Last season was WAY too much of a soap opera.

There are alot of legitimate mob guys here in the Philly area and a greater number of wannabes. And I can honestly tell you that there is no way in hell that any guy from either group would tolerate being ejected from his house by his wife or have his only son cry for his mommy like a girl.

As politically incorrect and disgusting as it may be, a more accurate portrayal of a "mob separation" would be the domestic abuse scene in the first Godfather. Mob guys don't get divorced, period.

I liked the metaphor of the bear representing Tony. When first seen, the bear is placed between Carmela and AJ. Later, the bear seems to be skirting the edges of the property. He is sensed, but never seen. Perhaps this represents Tony's growing distance (and maybe resentment) of his family.

I could be wrong. A writer friend of mine suggests that the bear represents Steve Buscemi's character. A threat that has just emerged that no one knows how to deal with, and perhaps no one perceives as a real danger yet.

And that friction between Christopher and Paulie is FAR from over.

I am a Sopranos fan. Mostly because I live in the area where they shoot a lot of it and I have seen them film. We were eating dinner at the GreyCliff the night they were shooting in the other room. Pretty cool. When I was younger I used to go the the Bada Bing(Satin Dolls) Club. So for me it is just cool seeing all these places on Television.

I enjoyed the season opener. Definetly better than the last season opener.

Big Sopranos fan. This season began quietly but efficiently. I also hope that there will be less soap operatics and more mafia drama this year. The show is at its best when the family dynamic overlaps with the mafia work ethic (as when Richie Aprile was involved with Tony's sister, which created all kinds of wonderful complications personally and professionally for Tony...so many that they tried to basically recreate the triangle with Joey Pants the following year, to lesser success.)

For the second straight year, it appears they are bringing in an heir apparent to the Richie Aprile role; last year Joey Pantoliano, and this year Steve Buscemi. I have high hopes that Buscemi will mesh well with the cast; the teaser for episode two had Buscemi deadpanning a great threat to Tony, something along the lines of "You're crowding me," that bodes well for future conflicts and battles in the power hierarchy.

Side note: living in LA and working in the entertainment biz, I happen to be good friends with the writer/producer who first "discovered" Sopranos creator David Chase some 30 years ago. For those who have watched the show from the beginning, you'll be interested to learn that Tony's mother was literally based on Chase's real-life mother; talk about a monstrous influence!
