On the last page of the current issure of TIME (March 22, 2004) there is a cartoon involving superheroes and steroids.

"Look up in the sky!"
"It's a bird!"
"It's a plane!"
"It's a phenomenon easily esplained by improved conditioning and better nutririon!"

"Bitten by a radioactive spider-yeah, RIGHT!"

The whispering only increased when Batman reveales a dramatically slimmed-down physique.

Hawkman holding a jar of urine-"Random testing is not only unfair and invasive-it's not even practical. As you can see, most of us don't even have zippers."

Thanagarians don't urinate. They absorb all the moisture they need from their food and beer and the only waste they leave is a dry white powery pellet.

Of course Hawkman ain't exactly from Thanagar these days...he's all Golden Age reincarnated and stuff... but still.

So happy to see DC signed off on such a respectful, accurate portrayal of their copyright characters. . . .

These companies have no clue about a simple business term called brand equity, or at least they don't anymore. In the old days, it seemd thet were very concerned with how their characters were portrayed and drawn. They wanetd consistency, which I believe helped them become iconic. Now, sheesh.

"Superman on the juice..."

Seems like everyone has an opinion about O.J. Simpson.

Wha...?

Oh, well, that's very different!

Nevermind.

Did DC have to sign off on this or does this follow under the Parody clause of Fair Use?

If it was done in parody I don't believe DC could sign off. You are right though JB, they (TIME) should have been more respectful of companies within the same ownership.
