Just wondering the level of editor-in-chief interference on this cover, JB? Given what's been said about Jim Shooter previously, I'm wondering if perhaps he was against the idea of characters out of costume, characters dead on a wall, etc. Given that this is probably the most talked-about cover of the early eighties I'm sure a bunch of us would love to know how many cooks were involved ...
Cheers!
Simon
JB, could you tell me who the character in the lower left corner is?
I can guess it is Quicksilver behind Wolverine's head thanks to the hair cut and that it is Pola"ris" and Ha"vok" behind Kitty, but I can't decypher the letters on the last one...
I would love to know if you had someone in mind or if it could just be anybody.
Thanks.
I always assumed it said "Forge", even though the character would not first appear for almost 4 years after this. CC tended to have subplots that lasted for years, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was tossed in, knowing that one day the character would appear.
Professor X. Process of elimination, and the last letter there looks like an X. You know, that group of mutants is about just right. No more are needed. That's enough.
The Days of Future Past Diorama has the face in the bottom left-hand picture as Franklin Richards. But unless the Kucharek brothers have truly uncanny eyesight (or a window into the mindo of the artist), I imagine that it was just a guess on their part.

Nahhhh! That's just a random clump of letters. Doesn't signify anything.
