JB, I've seen the original ending to Uncanny #137 reprinted over the years, but never seen the complete original framing sequences to Uncanny #138, as Scott and Jean are walking through the woods. I've seen the splash page, and the final panels where Logan reacts to Jean's leaving from a window. My question: have the other framing sequences ever been printed anywhere? Do you have scans of the original unpublished sequences from Uncanny X-Men #138? Thanks!

You know, now that you mention it, I think you're right. I don't recall ever seeing any of "the middle part" reprinted. I wonder whatever happened to that stuff? It would have been loose panels, here and there, easy enough to lose.

Hmmmm. . . .

Waxing Nostalgic...

I've seen a panel where Kurt hands Jean a flower, presumably as a farewell gift. Peter Sanderson's The X-Men Companion, vols 1 & II had perhaps the best interviews with the creators behind X-Men, ever, and tons of great art reproductions.

Uncanny X-Men #138 was an incredible issue...one of my fondest memories of collecting comics as a child. The way that you (JB) summarized the X-Men's history up to that point so concisely yet dramatically made the series come alive to my twelve year old eyes. My extensive collection of X-Men was motivated by reading that issue, especially the period from the issues #39 through 66.

I know some of y'all won't "get" why those issues were so special to me, but I know John will. For us and many others, THOSE guys were the Uncanny X-Men! Most of the literally hundreds of cyphers who have occupied the mansion since then were not deserving of the name.

My collection, btw, includes issues #32, 40, 42-66, 85, 86, 94-109, 111 through the Fall of the Mutants storyline in the 220's, and Giant Size X-Men 1 & 2. Then various issues after that when X-Men became X-Mania.

My memories of that time are a bit different. After reading that great cliffhanger in 132(wolverine emerging from the sewer)....my town was cut off completely from comics. It was due to some kind of distibuter dispute. The next comic to come my way, was the Fantastic Four issue, where EVERYBODY fights a weakened Galactus.
