What's hidden at the bottom of your collection?

Do you have a comic that you bought that you are now embarrassed about, yet still can't bring yourself to get rid of?

Mine would the Red Sonja movie adaptation. I never read the comics, but I was excited to see the movie. Afterwards, in a fit of post movie excitement (a combination of soda and Jordon almonds coursing through my veins) I purchased the adaptation. This isn't just any adaptation. It's the magazine-sized edition instead of the multi-issue standard-sized copy.



Ahhhhh, those Vince Colleta inks. There's no one else like 'em.

I agree with Darren Dew, except that I was able to part with that lousy comic - but that, in and of itself is a funny story.

First I tried to give it away (the first two issues, by the time the third one came out, I knew it was crap and had stopped buying it.) - but no one I knew wanted it - everyone I knew who liked comics knew that it stunk on ice, and those who didn't know much about comics told me that it was too garish and ugly to want to read.

So I recycled them. Hopefully they will pay for their sins and be reborn as the next printing of a good John Steinbeck novel.

What a horrendous comic.

After reading numerous pros' opinions of his inks, at first glance I read that as "Ahhhhh, those Vince Colleta inks. No one else liked 'em."

When my wife and I parted ways, she gave me her collection. When I finally got around to filing it into mine a couple months ago I was surprised at some of the comics that were there.

So....not so much embarrassed as pleasantly surprised.

Mine would have to be Youngblood 1 and 2. However, they do serve a purpose. The back of that particular comic box is somewhat defective, and there is a small piece of the cardboard slightly jutting out. The two Youngbloods solve this problem, perfectly protecting the much more valuable comics before them (like Spider-Ham)

Probably the Heroes Reborn AVENGERS #1. It's gawd-awful, but I like knowing that I own all three volumes of AVENGERS #1.

The entire Finnish run of Spawn (it got cancelled a few years ago) and nearly complete Finnish run of Witchblade & The Darkness (an anthology title which is to be cancelled in June - the last two years I've bought it simply because of the great backup features like Midnight Nation).

I did actually purchase an issue of X-Force once. Which one? Who can tell? It was without a doubt the most mind-numbing explosion of bad art, bad writing, and bad color I had ever witnessed. I haven't dared open it again for fear it will suck me into some evil vortex like the Necronomicom in Evil Dead 2.

Hey, let's have ourselves a pulp-in! You know, everybody bring the comics they most want to destroy (or recycle), and we toss 'em into a huge shredder. Maybe we can even get Paul Levitz to officiate.

Mike, I liked and still own the Defiant run.
It had some great issues. And yes, I still own Valaint comics. The Demon Shooter (the demon reference is for John) made a good comic.

No offense meant. To each his own I guess. I actually enjoyed many of the Valiant comics and recently "filled in" my collection of them when I found a bunch in a 10 cent box at the local store. But I really didn't care for Defiant at all.

I still have a copy of Youngblood #1, somewhere in a closet back in my mother's place. One of the few Liefeld/Extreme Studio books, that I still have. The rest, I gave away. I still have my Defiant comics.
Personally, I think Defiant was better than the Liefeld books.

Why be embarrassed by the Mother Theresa and Pope comics? I've read the Pope comic, and I thought they did a lovely job with it. Haven't seen the Mother Theresa one.

Ironwood..the entire series.

I own all of Bill Willingham's comics, but this one was a bit bizarre as a purchase. I think you would get arrested in Michigan or Arkansas if you even posessed it.

Why? If you're 11 (about how old I was when I bought them) and all your friends are reading GI Joe & Transformers (in their original Marvel runs), then the answer should be obvious.

Oh, and I finally broke down and ordered the St. Francis one off of Mile High, along with a few other things I'd been meaning to get, like Mighty Magnor #6.
