Some of you know I love Magpie...
And I want to see her back in the DC universe; last time I saw her, she was running with a candlestick during the underworld unleashed crossover.
Sometimes I wonder what kind of gift would she had asked from Neron...

I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find
The better part of me
I'm more than a bird ...I'm more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
It's not easy to be me."

Woah - they're right, you know. I try not to be petty, but, look, there's a whole comic out there right now that exists only to put JB's work to the lie, (ie, the Superman/Batman book) - and they've even gone so far as to state that Magpie is dead there, to, yet again, put JB's work to the lie - I'd say that Magpie should appear in DP, just to take a stand against this trend. I mean, even in a small cameo - you know, have a story begin with her being taken to jail, and that's it.
Something like that - just to show she's not dead?
The Doom Patrol were dashing, stunning people who became freaks. Larry was a pilot of experimental aircraft. Cliff was a race car driver (among other things.) Rita was an actress. Personality-wise, they weren't odd or freaky. They were kind of like the Super Handicapped Squad, with people looking at them the way people look at burn victims (no pun intended) or people in wheelchairs (no pun intended.)
To me this is the essence of why they're compelling.

I have to disagree on this a little bit. Rita was still a beautiful actress but she saw her self as a freak and weird. She was the one person (well, outside of Niles as far as we know) that could go out and still pass for normal. It was her own mind that told her she was a freak and outcast.
I also think that Rita found her purpose in being in the Doom Patrol more than the rest. Between her affection for her teammates and the fact she was out saving the world, I think Rita felt she found a place where she belonged, with these "freaks".

You may be surprised to learn we don't disagree at all. I agree that she saw herself as a freak and primarily she was the only one (outside of the film community) to see herself that way. But that doesn't make her demented, deranged, mentally ill, or otherwise mentally freaky / kinky. Surely you've known someone who when looking in the mirror can see only their shortcomings.
I am concerned that the Morrison run has made it seem that you have to be a mental case to be a Doom Patrol member.
