I saw the trailer for this film before "Hellboy," last night. It looks to be a very nifty movie. I hope it's as cool as it looks.

The giant robots trashing the city remind me of the robots that Superman fought in the old Fleischer cartoons.

BTW, does anyone else think Angelina Jolie's character above looks like she walked out of a JB comic? She has a "JB" look, to me.

Oh... And one more thing I just thought about...

If I recall correctly, Bryan Singer (and others) have commented that movie audiences would not accept giant robots like the Sentinels in a movie these days. I say that's nonsense. I hope that "Sky Captain" proves them wrong and makes Singer reconsider any doubts he has. I would love to see the Sentinels in the "X-Men" movies.

Until then, I plan to enjoy watching those giant robots in "Sky Captain."

Might have something to do with the way she hold her arms and hands. Pretty elegantly, also like JB often draws...at least that is how it looks to me.

Best,

Eelco

That's part of it, but she also has a "JB" face, to me. It must be the jawline.

Angelina Jolie is definitely a "Byrne Girl". The eyes, the jaw -- even her figure. Only the lips are a bit more than I usually draw.

The most anticipated (or at least the most looked forward to) movie of the year for me!

The movie is based on the 40s pulp science fiction/adventure stories. It is otherwise an orginal story.

The interesting thing about the film is the Director had all the special effects in the can before they had any actors signed on.

And besides the actors, everything is CGI.

OOPS!

April 4 2004, 12:19 PM

Backstory!

Phoebe Marrs was "reverse engineered". I came up with Desmond, first. I was flipping thru an issue of COSMO or VOGUE, one or another of the fashion mags I pick up for reference from time to time, and I came across a picture of this guy:

Immediately I knew he was perfect for Desmond Marrs, and I based Phoeb'es face on that.

Only years later did I learn he's a porn star!!

He's hit the gym since that pic was taken... erm, so I've heard...

Melissa knows Rocco!!!

He is also a "burgeoning" film actor in France these days, as their cinema is taking graphic on-camera sex to extremes, beginning with the film Romance.

i agree, Singer's a bit of a whoos when it comes to taking certain chances. If the giant robots are done WELL, audiences will love them. We BETTER see a LOT of Colossus in the third X-movie. but Sky Captain looks SO good, I can't wait. -Rick
