Maybe it's because I was so disappointed with JLA/Avengers -- I haven't been able to get the drolly fanboyishness outta me system, but . . .

. . . thought I'd post these battle scenarios and see what y'all thought (come on, just because we're sophisticated readers doesn't mean we can't geek out and dig the escapist pleasure of "vs" scenarios!).

So . . . who would win, how, and how do the combatants stack up against each other in power?

Darkseid vs Galactus
Superman vs Orion
Superman vs Captain Marvel
Thanos vs Darkseid
Hulk vs Superman
Spawn vs Thor

. . . and anymore you can think of.

What about Aunt May versus Aunt Harriet?

Anyway, here are my answers:

Darkseid vs Galactus

Galactus with ease.

Superman vs Orion

Which Superman? The Weisinger would win hands down. The JB Superman would be a tougher battle.

Superman vs Captain Marvel

Since his powers are magic based I would go with Cap.

Thanos vs Darkseid

No idea

Hulk vs Superman

Superman. He could hit the Hulk with a hundred punches before the Hulk could blink.

Spawn vs Thor

Could care less.

I would think Thor would do the comic world a favor and fry Spawn out of existence with a big ass lightning bolt or just pound him to dust with his hammer.

Well, Superman has already crossed paths With The Hulk on three occasions:

Superman & Spider-Man (2nd Crossover)
DC Comics vs. Marvel Comics limited-series
Superman vs. The Hulk (by Roger Stern)
Are there any other encounters that I'm unaware of?
I think The Hulk vs. Golden-Age, Superman, Hulk would win. Against Silver-Age Superman. No.

As for Galactus vs. Darkseid (JB did that one)

Maybe, if Darkseid crossed over to Marvel, and got possesion of the cosmic cube or the infinity gems, it might be another story.

Thanos vs. Darkseid (two of my favorite badguys)

I'd tend to agree on the original beating the imitation, but, under Mr. Starlin, Thanos is the master-schemer. Thanos doen't go into battle just thinking with his fists. Anyway, they both seemed evenly matched in the crossover limited series.

Wouldn't Thanos just talk Darkseid to death ?

Yeah, I guess Thanos written (with exception to Mr. Starlin/Mr.Giffen) by NuMarvel, that could happen.

In light of recent Thanos issues, I'd agree. That character is pretty much spent.

What about Superman vs Gladiator, then? How do they match up in power and who wins if these two fight?

Also, what about Supes vs Orion, or Supes vs Thanos?

Thanks,

Frank Robert

Using Byrne's Fourth Law, Superman beats everybody.

Which is how it should be.

The rules to company crossover battles...

April 7 2004, 5:50 PM

The story features two battles. Each character gets to sort of win one. In the end, some sort of stalemate is reached or if they're both heros, a team-up.

Or they could do something original and have one win in a way that makes sense. Chuck Dixon wrote Punisher / Batman and had Bruce Wayne soundly show his superiority over Punisher in one of the better Marvel / DC crossovers. They didn't even really team-up either.

I'd really like to see Jason Todd get a rematch against that crowbar.

What about Galactus' power?

April 8 2004, 10:00 PM

John:

I'm a little confused here . . . I remember (perhaps incorrectly) that you said, in an old Wizard interview that came out just prior to Darkseid vs Galactus, that if Galactus fought Darkseid while Galactus was fed, that G-man would mop the floor with Darkseid.

But I recently saw a post from 2003 on another comics board that is attributed to you in which you say that Darkseid started at Galactus' power level but then slightly surpassed that by killing/absorbing entire pantheons.

Which one is it?

Also, John you recently said here that you don't find that Darkseid is powerful enough to destroy -- at best -- a "smallish planet." So, if D-seid "started" at Galactus' level . . . then is destroying more than a "smallish" planet outside G's power range, in your opinion?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Take care,

Frank Robert.
