I've always appreciated Robert Fripp's unique style of guitar playing. He's one of those virtuosos that makes you wish you didn't play the same instrument.
As for music that I'm into, my favorite bands include:
1. Led Zeppelin- Jimmy Page is the John Byrne of guitar players. He is a consumate producer and writer, and as far as his guitar work, no one else has the range and diversity that he expresses.
Suggested track: The Rain Song from Houses of the Holy.
2. The Beatles (as a band and as solo artists)- Love it all. Three brilliant songwriters (my preference is George) and an avant garde producer that brought out their best.
Suggested Track: Give Me Love from George Harrison's Greatest Hits.
3. Concrete Blonde- Johnette Napolitano has the purest, most beautiful voice I've ever heard, and wow, what a range. From soft melodic intonations to ballsy, smokey rage...and she's a damn good songsmith to boot.
Suggested Track: Heal It Up from Mexican Moon.
4. Fleetwood Mac- Lindsey Buckingham is the most underrated singer songwriter of my generation. Oh, and Stevie Nicks, beyond being a true beauty, was a pure poet who captured my imagination as a pre-teen and has held it to this day.
Suggested Track: Oh Well from Fleetwood Mac Live.
5. Lorenna McKennitt- Can't say enough about this lady. She takes me back in time evey single time I hear her. She stirs my Celtic blood.
Suggested Track: Tango to Evora from The Visit.

I have all of KC's (studio) stuff going back to "Red," and I have "In the Court of the Crimson King," too. As you might guess from that collection, I'm more of an Adrian Belew fan than a KC fan.
If you like old-school KC, you may be interested to know that Greg Lake played bass on the two new songs on The Who's new Greatest Hits album ('cause there aren't enough of those already).
If you haven't heard them, they sound like they were written 20 years ago, and recorded post-"It's Hard," with mature lyrical themes, but fiercer drumming than Kenney Jones could muster. Like a cross between "A Man is A Man" and "After the Fire."
Not bad, but I wanna hear something loud, like their cover of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown's "Fire"

My appreciation of King Crimson is similar to my
appreciation of JB's work. I will buy whatever KC
releases without needing to preview it. Just like
JB, KC's old stuff is much better.
