From the Flash Spectacular from 1978. Wally Wood inking Jose Luis Garcia Lopez. MmmmMMMMmmmmm. Good stuff! The icing is this version of the Kid Flash uniform is my favorite.
"If only he had some way of getting quickly out of sight before being discovered! If only he could somehow change his clothes so quickly that his identity would be safe! But how? HOW!!???"
I kid, I kid. Great stuff.
I have to say I love the blurb describing his "origin" at the top of the page. If you can't solve a plot-hole, often the best thing for a writer to do is to call attention to it and act as if it were just an amazing circumstance -- something "just crazy enough to be true." A definite strength of older comics was the confidence with which they told their stories.
Bob,
Here ya go. This cover is also a favorite of mine. I saw the ads for it as a kid, but never found it in the local quick marts. This is an instance where I'm thankful for dealers and comic conventions...
This cover is all Jose Luis Garcia Lopez. IMO he draws the best Flash (all three versions), bar none.
Interesting! That looks more like Curt Swan than Jose, to me. (I suppose it actually could be, too, the way DC has worked over the years. Jose might have turned in a splash with three lines in the wrong place and Carmine had it redone by the first person who walked past his office.)
JB, anything specific makes you think that it looks more like Curt Swan?
The Kid Flash figure and Flash (Barry Allen) face are all Jose to me. Especially when compared to DC Comics Presents 1 & 2 that were done by Jose around the same time and costarred The Flash.
Edited to make it a more open-ended question rather than an unintentional either/or.

I was refering to the splash at the top of the thread. The Wally figure has a very Swan-ish feel to me.

I'm just curious, Leo, why you would make such a comment. I mean, I realize that there are bad dealers out there (and, I guess, bad conventions), but your comment makes it seem as if the bad is the rule, not the exception. If not for comic book dealers or comic book conventions, your best shot at getting an older comic would be from a family member or a yard sale.
Really, we're not all inherently evil. And, really, comic book conventions are a good thing.
The splash is Jose inked by Wally Wood. That's an interesting combination. That face does look a little like Swan to me as well.

Personally, it looks distinctly Jim Mooney-ish to me.

Matt, my comment probably did come across as snarky. That wasn't my intent. I've never had a really bad comic shop or convention experience. (Never had a "Bad Byrne" experience either, I guess I've just missed out.)
What I was really feeling was a lament for the thrill I used to have searching and finding comics in the quick marts. I've lost some of that thrill with comic shops because now I can order my comics and feel confident my dealer will have my copy waiting for me.
I do prefer the comic shop method, I just miss some of the searches I used to go on for comics.
