....I must inform you two blokes that his table is full, at the moment, and he will only be accepting prepaid commissions, with checks clearly made out to D-A-R-R-E-N D-E-W E-N-T-E-R-P-R-I-S-E-S.
Mark - it's open to everyone - I just called on Greg because he's our resident expert colorist - and... why Greg, aren't you working officially as a colorist?
Improve John's artwork? That's crazy talk! Thanks much! (The next sound you hear is my head swelling to gigantic proportions. :^)
Edited because I kept posting an incomplete pic.

Why the dark colors on "open" hair? Why blue on blue? (Woman's hair, Batman's cape.) Why blue hair at all? Why are her trousers, Batman;s cape and the sky almost the same value of blue? Why is the kid wearing gloves? Why are the kid's jacket, slacks and shirt all the same color? Why are the bleechers almost the same color as Batman's utlitly belt?

In reverse order:
Yellow because of the lights. I'll change this. The kids clothes were difficult to make out. The area I left white looked to have an area similar to Gordon's tie. I misinterpreted it as overcoat and jacket. Maybe they were on the way from church? I don't know. I'll fix that too. Those aren't gloves? Sorry. The thick line lent me that impression along with my misinterpretation of the overcoat. I'll change that. Brown hair because of the bleacher problem, blue hair because a poster complained about my grey hair on Superman. Thanks for the feedback.
Maybe I won't. I didn't store the layered format, and don't want to do all that work again.

I think you've missed my point. I know they are yellow because of the lights. But knowing you were going to have Batman, with yellow elements in his costume, in the foreground, why did you make the backgroung yellow? It reads as if Batman has "holes" thru him. By the same token, when have you ever seen lights at a baseball stadium that bathe the field in colored light?
I didn't miss the point. I agree with you completely. I just expressed the thought process behind the mistake. At the time I was thinking yellow wash from lights without considering the effect it would have on batman's yellow regions. I tend to make color theory errors in photoshop that I would never make on a canvas. Don't know why exactly. Too many buttons to push, I suspect. As for the colored lights, I was hoping to de-emphasise the background and thus bring the mother and son forward. I now see that some other color/colors would have been better. I should learn to sleep before posting images colored late at night.

cyrille and Gregs colors were bsicly what made me stop coloring!
Good Jobs all.
As for Marcs choices for the Batman piece- I think they were fine (but what do I know?)
They reminded me how those old 4 color comics (whatever they used to be called) and I thought had a great look to it.
There is something about the way he did the colors that seemed to help the "blotchiness" of the inks and made the whole piece come together in a nice way.
I, myself, cannot seem to get the same colors he and Cyrille can in photoshop.
I need to experiment with layers more I suspose.
I also need to learn how you guys are cleaning up these bad scans with little line weight and such-
All very interesting and informative!
Hey Danton, I hope you don't mind but I had only a few moments to play so I just used your coloring job to play with in photoshop-
sorry if I just made it worse but I was just using it to try some experimenting:
Now that I see it online it looks too dark..
oh well.
It's been 14 years since I colored something of JB's and I wanted too !

Nice of you to join in, Tom! i like the blur effects
you applied there!! Really love the work you've
done-- 'specially with Perez's recent works...
...hope you "play" with some of the other JB B&W's
around here!
I forgot about this thread and didn't know Mr. Cordier had posted the finished piece I requested! It's now on my desktop, and the kids love it too! Great job, Greg! Thanks!
