Is absolutely cancerous. My Lord, I have never seen such utter contempt and having it displayed in such a juvenile or uninformed manner. I know there are trolls, etc, but that place is unbearable. All those fans made the last Doom Patrol work out really well didn't they? And the time before? And the time before?
People eventually start to believe the opinions they hear on the Net and basically they hear them so much I believe it affects them or transforms their own opinions. I linked up JB's pencils on a site I frequent last night and a guy who was adamant about "his old stuff was better" completely recanted. And said I have to give JB credit those pencils are amazing.
Anyway this topic probably doesn't need it's own thread, but I just don't understand why someone would spend so much time complaining about essentially nothing, or old arguements that don't impact the present?

To me it seems (if you subtract JBF members) it's populated mainly (at least in terms of volume) by Morrison Doom Patrol fans and veteran message board cranks who live to troll.
"Continuity" has become a sickness. The trashing of Hal Jordan cured me of the sickness, so there was at least one positive to that incident.
peeing on themselves in joy that a new series is coming out..... Those are not Doom Patrol fans....
I've bought books from every incarnation except the last one...which seemed like a lame version of Gen 13. I also can't stand Crap Anime in general and that style of art is just unappealing to me....
There were aspects of each of the previous series apart from the original that I did not care for in one degree or another...(The Original series was perfect) I enjoyed Staton's New Doom Patrol although didn't find those characters as compelling as the original 3. I LOVED Steve Lightle's Doom Patrol...but was pissed that the female Negative woman would not help out Larry Trainer..... I was disgusted by Erik Larsens version and didn't buy a single copy and came back to the series when Morrison came on. I collected his run but the characters were so far removed from the DP that I never connected with them..... It was Doom Patrol in name only...
Point really is that I gave each version a shot and came into them wanting to be entertained...some really did others did not.....but I gave each a shot.... I may have not liked aspects of what was done but I looked at them on the stands....
Part of the fun of comics is seeing what a creative team will do with the characters.... Hopefully fans will take a look at the series and it will fail or succeed on its merits.
I was happy that Doom Patrol had a title last year in spite of the fact I did not care for the art or concept...at least they were out there.
The Doom Patrol is too good of a concept not to be on the stands....I think they can fill a nitch that JLA, JSA and the Titans can't...
If you had gone back and read every Doom Patrol appearance and pulled a Roy Thomas-like job of reconsciling every bit of fact AND found the most brilliant way of bringing the original members back as heroes -
Shoot, if you come over here and say that some of them are trolls, you'll irk them. Someone started a "look what they're saying about us" thread over there, talking about here.
It's like i often say, they're good over there for a good
laugh. NOT to be taken seriously at all. What's really
funny is when the refer to this crowd as "Byrne Zombies"!
Well, Scott Bierworth has been banned here and has been bitching up a storm over at the DCMB... Saying he'll blatantly read the book in the store and not (and I quote) "give Byrne a dime of my money". All because he got into a war of the words with JB and got banned.
As Scott said in one of his posts, "Actions do define character." Perhaps he, and others there, should heed those words...
I pretty much gave up on the DC boards a while back. I noticed it was, like so many boards, just a handful of people posting long, long messages and then slapping down anyone who dares disagree with them. (Doing what they accuse others of doing, in other words.)
One thing I have noticed a little more of there than anywhere else, tho, is a tendency of some of the posters to lift quotes from this board (in or out of context) and then add "So what Byrne (or whoever) is saying here is. . . "
In other words, they're apparently afraid the "damning words" are not damning enough -- they have to make sure anyone else who reads them gets what they are supposed to get, not form an independent thought.
Just to show you the percentage of fandom those boards represent, I've been buying comics for years and I just visited the DC message board for the first time a minute ago.
I found alot of what I read on the Doom Patrol very funny. One of things I found funny is how the very mention of "Byrne" causes an explosion of posts, most of which saying how unimportant he is. Now I ask you, would the mention of someone "unimportant" result in that kind of reaction?
The other thing I found was the amount of really sour grapes when it comes to this board. I saw ENTIRE threads devoted to THIS BOARD!!! What a compliment that is! I find it funny that people who hate this board and everyone in it is devoting so much time reading it. Its like someone hating Howard Stern and yet gluing themselves to the radio 4 hours a day to listen to it just to say how much they hate him.
The way they talk about JB, they sound like guys who got snubbed by a girl they love. All those guys who are posting all that garbage really are in love with JB!!! It's so obvious that they want JB's attention and approval and that some of them have tried to come here and get it, and when they don't get it they act like scorned women. They hate JB yet they will still stand in a long line like sheep to get something signed and have their fat little faces blush when they meet him.
I saw one post that said that the JBF had the worst reputation on the internet as a message board. Funny thing is that I'm on the internet probably 16 hours a day and I've missed the news reports proclaiming this statement.
Saying that the JBF has a bad reputation among the other tool message boards on the internet is like saying that Americans have the worst reputation at Osama Bin Laden's dinner table. Its an opinion held by people of zero consequence at a location of zero consequence and doesn't affect me in the least. Does anyone there actually expect JB or anyone here to lose any sleep because of the crap they say?
"Well, Scott Bierworth has been banned here and has been bitching up a storm over at the DCMB... Saying he'll blatantly read the book in the store and not (and I quote) "give Byrne a dime of my money"..."
He's not harming JB, he's hurting his retailer. JB already got paid for that job, the retailer is losing a potential sale.
Really? We're the nicest, most erudite, well informed, well spoken, polite bunch of people anywhere on the internet. How can we possibly have a bad reputation?
