I skipped this at the theatre because of all the negative reviews, but checked it out on DVD last night. Nowhere near the groundbreaking first movie, but it still entertained me. The thing that will make me buy my own copy is the scene with the single greatest superhero battle ever filmed. I felt like I was watching two Kryptonians throw down against each other!
I thought it was one of the greatest POS I've ever seen, in fact won't be buying it.
I have a copy of the second movie if you want it. I'm just going to watch the awesome first movie and leave it at that. I'm already trying to contact the doctor in Eternal Sunshine so I can get those memories wiped....

That superhero fight scene looked right our of Moore's Miracleman. The film didn't have the same impact as the first, but I certainly wasn't disappointed.
Revolutions worked for me ONLY because of the final fight scene.
When i saw it (in theater on the first day!) i was amazed at how the
audience was reaction to the scenes as they unfolded. NOT in a
good way either-- more like they were amused at what should've
been taken seriously. The first sign i saw that this trilogy had gone
terribly wrong...
The issue I have with the admittedly nicely realized final battle between Neo and Smith is that such a beatifully executed climax of a Superman flick has been wasted on the Wachowski's pseudo-intellectual clusterf*** of a film.
Imagine that scene between, say, Superman and Braniac as the lightning rains down from Brainiac's ship...
For me, the movie was a snorefest. So too was the second movie. There was just no urgency in any of the principals. They were all superheroes, doing extraordinary things, and it was so boring.
SPOILER ALERT
The end fight with Neo and Smith was a joke, sorry to all those who liked it. I mean, the main man, who's coming has been prophesised and who the machines are doing all in their power to beat takes on Smith.... and loses, only for Smith to be taken down by the Oracle's Trojan Horse? Sheesh, why bother - she could have done that anytime.
What the hell is that?

I never said I liked the "ideas" behind the fight - the plot was a joke - but the visuals of the fight scene I think were impressive. Sadly, they were not in a better film.

I was disappointed with RELOADED after seeing it in the theater, and I heard nothing but bad things about REVOLUTIONS, so I sat that one out. I was curious though, and piggy-backed on a co-worker's Netflix rental of it. I'm glad I didn't waste money on it...having said that, though...
REVOLUTIONS wasn't as God-awful (pun?) as I thought it would be. Overall, I liked it more than RELOADED. There were some decent FX, to be sure. And the final battle was pretty cool...except for Neo losing.
The biggest issue I have with the film is I'm still not sure what the hell happened! While it's very likely I may just be a dolt, I found the "deep" stuff in the film to be confusing and fairly pointless. What's the deal with the Oracle and the Architect...and that little girl? Are Smith and Neo really done?
And...so, there's a truce. But with Smith supposedly eliminated, why would the machines honor it? And they're still using humans as batteries, right?
So, yeah...much like Philosophy classes back in college...you start out thinking you're going to get some answers, but you realize you've just wasted a couple of hours and given yourself a headache...and are more confused than ever.
I don't think I'll watch either one of the sequels again, and therefore will not be purchasing the DVDs. I'll simply stick with the original MATRIX.
.......I watched this snoozer last night and what a major disappointment it was. Even the fight at the end didn't redeem it for me. I mean how many times can you see a big bubble of rain from the punches..........
And it's too bad too. The trilogy started so well.
...And what's all this nonsense about there being a Star Wars chapters 1-6? I only know about Star Wars, Star Wars:The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars:Return of the Jedi. Really, where do people come up with this stuff?
Since we're talking about sequels that should be purged from the collective consciousness

A little story.
Quite a few years back several of my friends and I got together to spend a couple of days at the coast(Texas Gulf Coast.) On the second night we were there the movie Big Top PeeWee was about to begin in the very wee hours of the morning. A couple of my friends and I are movie buffs and one of them wanted to stay up and watch it. Having already lost 90 minutes and a few brain cells to this movie I not only declined but insisted (perhaps even pleaded) to my friend not to see it. Knowing how fussy he can be about the movies he likes I usually avoid any opinions about movies he hasn't seen but I felt it was for the common good I warn him about this one. Granted, my friend counts Codename:Wildgeese as a favorite of his (a whole season on MST3000 could be based on this one.)
Suffice it to say the next morning he lambasted me for not trying hard enough to dissuade him from watching the movie and resented having lost 2 hours (TV time) of his life to it.
