Question for JB: Donna Troy

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I am new to the board a big fan of your work on Wonder Woman and have been dying to know about Donna Troy.

It seemed that there was a lot of potential for Donna Troy that was not followed through with (or should I say squandered) by the Wonder Woman and Teen Titans creators after you left the Wonder Woman book. As we all know, ultimately they killed off Donna Troy in the Teen Titans/Young Justice cross over. (The Teen Titans book was so bad I refused to buy it even if it had "Donna Troy" in it, so I never even read the story).

What would you like to have seen done with the character and where would you have taken her after the Dark Angel saga and the revelations that Donna Troy was actually a "fragment" of Diana's soul (dare I say a "soul sister")?

Kind regards,

Daniel

As someone new to the board you are probably not aware of the fact that I generally do not talk about plotlines I did not get to use. There have been too many instances where I have seen my stories turn up with other "professional's" by-lines when I have talked of them in public venues.

Suffice to say I did have plans for Donna, and that they did not involve her death.

Thank you JB.

I guess I could say I am shocked, but any unused storylines that were stolen from you probably account for some of the better work out there these days...

Too bad you did not have another year or two on Wonder Woman...your work on that book definitely kept getting better and better...

After the pretty good run by Phil Jimenez, the book has gone where it always goes...DOWNHILL FAST....You do have to wonder how DC can have four or five books with Batman and Superman and can barely do one title with Wonder Woman...

Kind regards,

Daniel

ps Now that she is "dead"....maybe DC will let you bring her back one day in a mini-series and you could follow through with your plans?

It does appear that your story arc including Donna Troy set her up to be the ultimate character to keep returning since the Jean Grey/Phoenix and her 3 plus lives...(Donna probably allowed herself to die in order to escape the wretched "Titans" title, thinking that the next tortured life Dark Angel brought her to could not possibly have worse writing or art....)

Or better yet...you could take over Wonder Woman again...and save her from her current bad writing, art and covers (..on the last issue's cover she looks like a cross between a Penthouse centerfold and a WWF female wrestler in a tacky Versace dress..)...

Kind regards,

Daniel

(The Teen Titans book was so bad I refused to buy it even if it had "Donna Troy" in it, so I never even read the story).

Just so no one is confused when reading this thread, Donna Troy died in GRADUATION DAY starring the new Outsiders and Teen Titans. It was not written by current TEEN TITANS scribe Geoff Johns, but by Judd Winick. IMHO, GRADUATION DAY was horrible. Terrible way for a great character to die and for no real reason that I could see. Left with that, Geoff Johns has done a wonderful job addressing her loss in TEEN TITANS. Johns' TITANS is a "Must Read" for any fan of great comics written with the respect and care the genre deserves. It's also got fantastic art by McKone.

Wanted to clear that up in case it turned anyone off of reading TEEN TITANS.

I was hoping when JB was through with her "relaunch" in WW that Donna would start using the "Darkstar" name again, and even though they decided to use "Troia" instead, I really liked the look that Phil Jimenez designed for her. It's too bad that she (and the TITANS book itself) was so badly handled by Grayson, Faerber, and those that followed. I'm sure they were well-intentioned, but their characterization was way off and the storylines seemed to veer wildly from one "event" to the other. (From what I've read, though, DC editorial ran that book with an iron hand, so perhaps the blame should be cast in that direction.) In any case, the new TEEN TITANS book by Johns & McKone is a tremendous improvement and a great read.

Sorry for the confusion, I was speaking about "The Titans" and not the current version of "Teen Titans" which is a vast improvement over the previous incarnation. Unfortunately Donna Troy cannot be there, as she is dead, from the Titans/Young Justice book, Graduation Day...but I have enjoyed the new book and am looking forward to the return of Raven...

But nothing beats the old days of Teen Titans with Wolfman and Perez...some of my favorite comics ever...Donna Troy's character was not well done since those days, until JB "took her back" in his Wonder Woman run....

Donna ain't dead. At the end of Graduation Day we see her "somewhere else" getting up and wandering away. Seems a rather obvious set up for something. Given Geoff Johns excellent talent of salvaging characters lost to the mess of prior continuity I'm not really worried and I'm actually looking forward to whatever he has planned for Donna.

I do miss Donna, but if she has to come back, let's have it be as someone who has never been Wonder Girl.

I think JB's story can be used to make this happen.

Donna Troy... Dead?

Since I didn't pick up the mini-series where Donna was killed off, does that mean it really happened? I'm thinking no. At least in my corner of the universe.
