BD loses a leg in Iraq!

I had to read it twice to be sure - and we saw his hair!

I was more surprised by the helmetlessness than his leg.

Here's to the troops and hoping they come back in one piece.

I think the hair thing was to show serious it was.

I agree. It was a brilliant choice on Trudeau's part. I don't think there's anything he could have tone to better convey BD's complete vulnerability.

I think this is an incredible turn of events. Monday's initial installment took my breath away.

Can't have BD be a superhero all his life. Remember the old strips when he was in 'Nam? Swilling beer with his VC buddy Phred and bullets pinging off his helmet?

Iraq ain't like that this time. Sobering thought.

Still a Few Bugs in the System

Really well handled by GBT, as usual. I've been following this strip since before I understood it - I used to sneak my brother's books and really loved the dialogue. I didn't undertsand all of the political stuff, but it made me curious to find out. I've always thought the humor was pitch perfect.

Still a big fan, but have been too busy to follow in the last few weeks. Thanks for the heads up.

You know, I thought it was probably a defining moment in that comic. I'm really amazed about how simple those panels were to convey that feeling. I think he's write a kick-ass Green Arrow social problem-type story.

Well, Monday's was the first new one in a few weeks. He'd been doing reruns.

I don't know how I'm going to reread those old cartoons of B.D. and Zonker in a football huddle, without getting a lump in my throat.

I grew up on the original Doonesbury Chronicles, which I still think is hilarious and brilliant. Trudeau is still an excellent cartoonist but I haven't followed Doonesbury in years. I'll follow this; BD is like a long-lost relative and monosyllabic pal.

So, it's been a few days, and we're seeing BD in the hospital now, and it occurred to me:

I'll bet BD never wears a helmet ever again.

Thoughts?

I love that joke from... yesterday? When he says: "You can't stop staring at it." "What, man?" "My hair."

I'm so loving Doonsbury right now. It's perfect.
