"What's the wager?"
The most important thing of all- bragging rights. Kudos.
"And can Mods play?"
Sure.

When you say Johns (John's?) do you mean John Byrne or Geoff Johns?

Jeff Smith (the guy who does Bone) is doing a four issue mini-series after he finishes up Bone.

The second to last issue of Bone comes out tomorrow, so it's unlikely that he's gotten that far with it (assuming he's even started). I'm guessing it'll be a year or so before it's released. Don't know if DC would want to have other CM projects in the hopper until after the mini's done.

Sad, then, that DC announced this mini well over two years ago. I even had it on my pull. And it probably won't be published for another year or so, making it between 3 and 4 years between press release and publication. Doesn't that make the original announcement totally worthless? Makes no sense to me.

JB mentioned that there was a project he had been wanting to do and was close to maybe getting a green light but they couldn't announce it because the creator who was going to do the character had just left the project so they wanted to wait to make sure people didn't get the wrong impression that he was forced off.
So if Doom Patrol does reasonably well I think it is a sure bet that JBs next project will be Captian Marvel.
JB all but told us with his last big hint.
It just hit me for some reason on the way home from work yesterday..
Sounds promising to me- like I said elsewhere I just hope it is a Marvel set inside the current DC universe.

I thought the same thing about Marvel when JB wrote that. The only thing I could think of that would mess it up is JSA. Is Marvel exclusive to Geoff Johns? Would JB want exclusive rights to Marvel?

Of course all this hangs on the thought of me thinking I read that Smith's Captian Marvel was sadly canceled?
Anyone else read that or did I dream it?

Dwayne, you're right about Marvel. I forgot. I just got about 30 issues of JSA via eBay and have been reading the old stuff. I've forgotten about what's going on currently.

Well I have looked and can't find this story about Smiths Marvel being canceled again-
I may have dreamed this.
I actually dream about such stupid things
So this may all be nuts and I may have started one of those weird rumors???
This can't be true unless Smith isn't going to be doing Captian Marvel so maybe I just read his book was pushed back yet again like Matt wrote and remembered it as canceled?
We will see I suspose.

Man I can't wait for Byrne's Captian Marvel to come out...
what was its date again?

I bet he already has 7 or 8 issues done.....

I love DC.
I added the Superman books to my waiting list last week for the first time in years.
I am already getting JLA,JSA,FLASH,HAWKMAN,TEEN TITANS and soon Doom Patrol- then tomorrow I believe I will add all the Green Lantern books again- then they will bring back Hal-
then I am gonna start buying most of the main streem DC books just outta respect if they Bring back Hal in the right way.
Then we will get the John Byrne on Captian Marvel (or Shazam for you tradionialists;) and all the world will be well.

Just when I am out they drag me back in...

Concerning Captain Marvel

April 28 2004, 8:32 AM

Ok I admit at the outset that the only times I have read Captain Marvel has been when he has appeared in other titles. (e.g. Legends, JSA)

My perception of him has always been that he is a somewhat dated, poor mans Superman. I am speaking out of confessed ignorance here of course.

Would anyone care to explain why I should be enthusiastic about JB (or any worthy creator) doing a new Captain Marvel series?

________

Jeff's been nearly done with Bone for quite a while, but he's been fine-tuning the pages and the story so that he's 100% satisfied with the final issues before they see print. It's the end of a 12-year story (longer, considering that he first created the characters when he was about six years old, and revisited them when he was a college student), and he's the publisher, so I don't blame him for putting a lot of care into the final product.

This book was only officially announced last summer, right around Comic-Con. Since Jeff's already well underway with the series, and DC isn't going to solicit it until he's nearly done with the writing, penciling, inking and whatever else he'll be doing, the first issue will probably ship around the end of the year, maybe a whole 18 months after it was announced.

The advance announcements are a good thing for cases like this, when a major creator or creative team is handling a high-profile project. The Stan Lee "Just Imagine" series, 1602 and JLA/Avengers are two titles that were announced well in advance of the first issue's release, and the lead time allowed fans to build up some interest, speculate along with other fans, pore over the teaser art and promotional pages. There's no need to keep a project under wraps once the ink's dried on the contract, especially if DC can start promoting the new Captain Marvel book and hoping that fans take an interest in the character (and buy DC Archives, JSA, and any other Captain Marvel appearances leading up to the new Monster Society of Evil series).
