Ultimate Fantastic Four #5 (i really want to like this but it's only good some of the time)
Ultimate Six #7 (last issue... very disappointing mini series)
X-Statix #22 (loving the X-Statix/Avengers war... it's like the DEFENDERS VS THE AVENGERS meets SPOCK'S BRAIN... good stuff... though i hear this is the last arc before the title gets canceled?!?)
Has anyone picked up any of the Marvel Age titles? I leafed through a couple at the local "book and record" store (the kids still laugh at me when I refer to a place as a record store) and was ......intrigued?...... Looks like original Stan Lee stories, but with new dialog and art?
You hear that?! This John Byrne character has such an ego! He gives people compliments even when he has had negative professional experiences with them! He's a monster! The nerve....
Hey, wait a minute.
Ahem.
Let it never be said that JB can't separate the pro from their work.

Superman 204 (Jim Lee draws a great Superman and, so far, the story seems much better than Azzarello's incredibly boring Batman)
Batman 626
Birds of Prey 66
Ministry of Space 3
Caper 7 (this story, a legal drama, is not as the first arc, a gangster story, but it is pretty decent)
Wildcats 3.0 20
Conan 3
Mystique 13
X-Treme X-Men 46
Legion 32
JLA 97
Flash 209
Superman 204
JLA 97
Batman Adventures 12
Essential Tomb of Dracula Vol. 2
On a somewhat related note, did any Universal Monster fans pick up the Legacy Collections that came out on DVD yesterday? 14 Classic Universal Monster movies on 6 discs! Highest recommendation for fans!

I picked up the FF Marvel Age #1, and will probably buy the next few issues. The art is manga-style, which is ok with me. It was a fun comic, and made me remember how fast-paced the original FF stories were.
As long as they stick closely to the original stories, I think I'll buy them. My boys liked it a lot. I think it's a far better idea than the ultimate versions were.
Records are records, whether they are released on vinyl, cassette, 8-track, CD, minidisc, or digital download. Regardless of delivery device, they are recordings aka records. That's what the industry and the artists call them, and they should know!
It's only because vinyl was the dominant format for so long that turntables started to be known as "record players," which muddied the waters for all time once "tape players" and "CD players" came to be.
If Dave Matthews released an MP3-only concert recording, some of his fans who listened to it on their computer would probably say it's a "cool CD." They would be wrong, because it's not a CD. The fans who call it a "cool album" or a "cool record" would be accurate.
Batman - 626 (Hope this is better than Winick's OUTSIDERS, which makes me want to take a shower)
The Flash - 209
JLA - 97
Hulk - 71
Ultimate Six - 7
Ultimate FF - 5
Avengers - 81
Catwoman - 30
Birds of Prey - 66
Superman - 204 (Like the diddster, this is the first time I've picked up a Superman title in a decade. Hope it lives up to the hype.)
Avengers/Thunderbolts - 3 (A customer in the store said he was buying this title even though it was "god-awful." So much wrong with that statement, I don't even know where to begin.)
X-Statix - 22
New Mutants - 13
Iron Man - 80 (Close to the chopping block on this title)
Conan - 3
Tales of the Vampires - 5
30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow - 2

OK, all y'all who bought Superman 204, plz report here with a "yay" or "nay"
I do like Jim Lee's art, but I don't want to suffer thru Azzarello if I don't have to

I give it a \"yea.\" Not as convoluted as his Batman arc, this story is the foundation of what looks to be a very different Superman story...and that\'s a good thing compared to the crud his titles have been for over a decade. I\'m not entirely sure where it\'s going but, if the rest of the issues are as good as this one, I\'m along for the ride. And Lee\'s art is just nice to look at.
I have seen so many positive posts regarding The Flash and Geoff Johns of late that it has really gotten me curious. Is there a particular arc of the Geoff Johns Flash that makes a good sampler? How far back does his run go?
For Geoff Johns on Flash, reading #209 by itself is a good start (it was my first.) It's really complete in one issue (with plot threads, of course) and kind of explains where Flash has been the past several issues I didn't read.
OK, all y'all who bought Superman 204
My LCS owner must be expecting this book to be HUGE. He had 6X the shelf space devoted to this book as opposed to JLA's 2X (which was down from 3X for JLA 94).
I don't generally like Azzarello. I hated his Batman..I only suffered through 2 issues. I got bored with 100 Bullets halfway through the second Trade. That said, I liked the tone of Superman 204. I think he nailed Superman pretty well..unlike his Batman.
Flash is my favorite comic on the market and has been since Paul Gulacy took over the art on Catwoman. I can't read Catwoman at all now because of his art. Catwoman went from being my favorite book to unreadable because the art was so distracting to the flow of the story. Flash keeps getting better though.
I got...
Tom Strong Hardcover #3...
Flash 209...the best book in the superhero market.
Superman 204...I was surprised in a good way.
Birds of Prey 66...No Toth cover as solicited. Verrry mad.
Harley & Ivy 1... come on. Dini & Timm.
JLA 97...of course. Yay, we finally see them.really looking forward to the final 2 books.
JLA #97 (well, duh!) -- I though this was the weakest issue of the arc so far, which does NOT mean that it wasn't still a great read! I think it was the Wonder Woman stuff that threw me off. She seemed to recover pretty fast. Did I miss something there? However, seeing more of the DP was supah! Robotman looks real purdy!
4 #5 -- My only monthly M****l read. The art by McNiven is gorgeous! The writing has been getting better each issue. I would recommend this book for the art if nothing else.
Superman #204 -- YAWN. I don't know. I picked this up on an impulse. First Supes book for me in many moons. Story was adequate, but Jim Lee's art just does not grab me the way it seems to grab everyone alse. Great draftsman, but I find that if you see his work once or twice, you've basically seen it all. Never anything new.
Astro City/Arrowsmith Flip Book -- I missed this last week. Anyone read Arrowsmith? Any good? I'm a big fan of AC which is why I picked this up. Busiek is one of my favourite writers (along with JB and Johns).

Um, when did Kitty and Rachel become lesbians? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) There were a few scenes that seemed very out of character to me. Plus I'd always assumed that Rachel's short hair was because they shaved it when she was a hound.
Kitty was, up until this very issue, the poster child for rampant female Heterosexuality. Not only that, but she had what passes for stable relationships in the X-Universe. sigh
Well, yet another reason to not read the X-Books any longer.

Maybe Rachel's mind-control powers are working overtime? I dunno...
JLA #97 (will comment later on the offical thread)
Transformers #4 (Omega Supreme is back! Yes!)
Superman #204 (The art looks really, really good! The story was not so hot in my opinion. I wonder what the people who said JLA 94 was slow will say about this one!)
I bought the last ish of X-Statix (21) because that Mike Allred cover with the Avengers was just too, good. I bought the next ish too. I love Allred art, and the chance to see these characters drawn by him is too good to miss.
The story underwhelmed me. But that may be because I've been reading Birthright and Superman/Batman which have a lot more action. I still enjoyed the issue as a whole though. I should have expected a grittier tale considering the author, but I just wanted to see a more traditional take.
The art was great. The colors were awesome. The outer space rescue sequence was good too. The scene with the atmosphere re-entry was well done! It made me imagine what it would be like to experience that myself.
I think the story will be better next issue. Let's all just keep our inner trolls on their leashes for a couple of issues.
One thing is for sure, the issue was MUCH slower than JLA #94. So I wonder if the same critics who criticized JLA #94 will say the same about SUperman.
Igave Superman 204 a thumbs up. The art is good and the story seems to be starting at a point that has me wanting more. The pacing is good for adult readers, but probably too slow for younger ones (as with most comics these days. Sigh).
DD: Father was a better read than I expected. I almost didn't buy it because of the grotesque figure on the openning splash page, but luckily I thumbed the rest of the book and it really has a good look to it. Don't be thrown off by that one image.
Bought Ultimate Six #7 and yawned all the way through. This series should have stopped at #6. A whole issue just to wrap it up? I liked the premise, but too slow in the execution.
