I would hope to nominate someone who feels the necessity of having meetings and a direction for the guild to proceed and grow. Mike McVay would be my choice for President if he is willing ot run. He has a perspective of the history of the guild and is able to state clearly hwat he believes.
I'd be quite happy to renominate Trace Breitenfeldt as V.P. He is newer to carving, but serious about the art form and active in the carving world.
I also think that Mike and Trace would be good for the guild. I'm curious as to why there wasn't a meeting held again until now. Reedsport was mentioned and both Wayne and I were there so it could have been a reasonable venue. But never mind. I'm back in Oz now.
The concept of point system wierds me out. This is an international art form and am I wrong to assume an international guild. Most international contenders ... and alot of US contenders ... cant attend all the events for a point system. It would, in my humble opinion, be a hollow and self serving exercise ... and a sore waste of energy to pursue this concept.
Judging. Once again I dont feel we should spend too much longer on this issue. I feel that all the guild can do is submit a paper (in the newsletter perhaps ... or on the forum) outlining what reasonable expectations of a competitive event are required of the judges and conditions of the event in general. We can not tell someone how to run their event ... we can only advise them. And if the carvers like an event their continued attendance will speak for itself.
I believe that Susan and Mike have been working hard at establishing such guidelines ... for that's all they will be ... guidelines.
Sorry ... but I'm pretty sure that my fees are horribly over due. I will try to remedy this situation ASAP.
I would like to put up notice that I am resigning from the position of treasurer. I had signed on for one year to get the books in order, and have had the position for two years. Please be looking for a new treasurer.
My understanding is that this is a West Coast Guild that anyone can join. The UCCG is the international guild.
Trace is around during summers, and at many contests. So.. the V.P. job is to run meetings when the President isn't available. so far, that hasn't happened much, but it would make some sense to have the VP actually do something.
The position of treasurer is an appointed one, not elected, with the input of the intire board. Can you hang in there until our next sit-down meeting? When we do appoint a new treasurer, there will need to be a thorough review of the treasurer's report, checks written, bank statements, etc. before handing over the job to the new person.
I do realize that it is an appointed position and did not plan to leave the position high and dry. But wanted to let everyone know that this is the year I want to pass it on to someone else. The books are in order, unlike the books that I recieved upon going into this position. It is not a terribly difficult job, the main thing is that the records are audited at least once a year. We have proven that the guild can be ran without donations from the competitions. Of course I will still be on the board, but also realize that the treasurer position will be permanently mine if I don't insist on getting out of it. I will make it as easy for the incoming treasurer as possible.
Cindy, you took on the job of treasurer at a time when we needed a professional and diligent approach to the job, and you have provided that. I think we have all had confidence in you as treasurer and wish you would stay on in that position. We all owe you our thanks for a job well done and appreciate the fact that you have created order where it was lacking.
So, a sincere thank you from me.
If it's not too late ... I would like to nominate Deb for Treasurer. Deb seems to have all her hats in one basket and I imagine it woulld be a clean and easy transference of books between Cindy and Deb. But it's probably too late Huh !!!
This is the end of my term as president. I will not be an officer in the next term. Imay still be active as a board member. Cindy is the glue that is holding us together, Iwish to nomanate her as president. I also hope she will continue as treas. She has created a resectable and legal document we can use to get federal tax status, all weneed to do is file. CCSG has approved spending the fee for a CPA .Jan 1st 06 was my goal.
We need to give some thought to our prospective nominees. Has the person we are considering ever shown any interest in furthering the causes of the guild? What is our impression of how they would contribute to the board? and so on. Also, I can imagine situations where someone we would definately see as having a net harmful effect on the guild, either through bad feelings or personal traits that aren't beneficial. I think it would be good to list the possibilities here, discuss them as a group, and decide whether we should approach them about possibly running for office. I especially think we should consider this before we include every single suggestion that the general membership makes.
This is not unprecedented: many organisations have nominating committees to screen candidates, and the practice prevents some possible future problem situations.
do you honestly belive that george kinny is someone who will work toward the goals of the carvers? honestly!this guy has worked against our guild in no small way, the only reason he joined is because he was asked to by you, at my suggesten,to at least join since we gave him so much free addvertisment, what would his sense of history of the guild be? the by-laws also state that a carver should not work against the best intrest of the guild! in these matters george fails miserbly,I relize that he has a leagal right to be considerd,if he could write a report on why he would be a good participateing board member,I would be tickeled pink to hear his blather, and dont let frank write it!if I sound cynical to you fellow board members I am,as a guild, the only thing we can get done, is get the newsletter out on time? and we cant do that, maybye if george is a board member he could buy enough add's for his school to pay debbie what she deserves! "oh the irony", whatever will the shallow end think of next?........................a truly loyal servant mr.steven john backus the third..........................................
I have known George Kenny for over 6 years. I believe he is an individual in the carving world that know how to make things happen. He has been honest in all of our dealing with him. I think that he would be a wonderful addition to a stalemated guild. He is a great find Deb. Does this need to be seconded? If so I would like to second the nomination for George Kenny to be on the boeard at this time.
Should we sit here uncomplainingly while we're accused of being stalemated? A few days ago the complaint was that a couple of us had actually done something we said we'd do. Is there a little pent up anger here? Could these insults make those hot headed people like me feel a little put out? (yes)
And Steve, if we reject anyone from nominations, it should be because they have a serious character flaw or have done a heinous act, not because some of us don't agree with them.
Let's grow up here. I thought we just put the last little tif behind us and were moving forward. If not, I'll shut this meeting down quicker than you can blink an eye.

president? board member? minister of fear? And susan I stand corrected on who can be nominated{winceing in a a pained face, with a small tear running down my leathery cheek} "the newsletter", and the "content" will always reflect the base feelings of the guild!! And the newsletter will continue to be a resource on our short history, forgive me if I spoke as if resenting a certain person for activly persueing anti-guild actions,I can only use my personl past exeriance as a refrence,I kinda aplogize, but the goal here ultimitly is?{1} {to produce a interesting and resorceful newsletter on time?} OR {2}{or watch. as little clicks jump around and switch teams, and partners, like a page out of george orwells animal farm book! I recomend everyone read it, or have it read to ya, and pick the animal you relate to,my guess is theres more napolians then benjimans!!}o.k.as for my little quizz I pick #1{get the newletter out on time} and it still aint happing, so whoever sucessfuly traverses the heady high drama that is going on right now, and becomes the selfless leaders of the new and improved guild,"tends to bidness" this stalemate you speak of cindy could you explain this to me,I am afaid I dont get it?is it a us, againsnt them thing, and if it is, exactly who is us, and who is them? kinda like pogo in the big sawmp we have met the enemy and he is US! bye bye now..................
My problem was I volunteered for a committee on the board and then when a report was given, my name was not included or Brad Sharp who was also supposedly on the committee. Brad and I had worked on it some sense the last meeting. I had also talked to Susan a couple of times. It looks like Susan decided to put together a different committee, and doesn't want to give a report for fear that some of the information will get in the wrong hands and not have her name on it. That is okay, I have said that I will work on my own. If this was a live meeting, it would have moved on not stalemated at that point.
Is it possible that there was some confusion about which committee was doing what regarding the point system and judging criteria?
This is an interesting sequence: Debbie's first entry into the minutes is consistent with my meeting notes:
Here's a copy of paragraph 25 and 26 from version 1 of the minutes:
h. Judging Criteria
Plan ahead for meeting
Add to general forum, then add to board forum, Mike says trim the fat, Bob agrees.
i. Guild Guidelines
PARAGRAPH 26
j. Point System
Bob King, carver of the year, had nothing to do with the point system, Simply the most accomplished carver this year.
Do we even want a point system?
Needs to be something at the end if we do.
Susan interrupts, says to have a separate meeting just to cover the points system. Should be a committee formed. Volunteering for the committee are: Debbie, Cindy, Brad, Steve.
Add to general CCSG forum for discussion. Also protecting People’s Choice.

And here's Debbie's post wondering about the judging committee (See the judging comittee report)
Debbie Breitenfeldt

Just curious...

I know that Susan mentioned that her and Mike volunteered to organize some judging....
How did a committee get formed, and how do you get involved if you so choose?
***********************
Now, it looks as if Debbie didn't see anything in her original notes that would end her puzzlement about the judging criteria committee. Then, for some mysterious reason, after a number of quite hostile exchanges (again, see the judging committee report) there is quite a different interpretation of the minutes. This appears in the second version of the minutes. Not cool, guys!
PARAGRAPH 23 Version 2
h. Judging Criteria
Plan ahead for meeting
Add to general forum, then add to board forum, Mike says trim the fat, Bob agrees.
Susan, Mike, Cindy, Steve, Brad and Debbie agreed to put together a committee for judging criteria. Add to general CCSG forum for discussion. Also protecting People’s Choice.
Please correct my spelling on above post...
(I HAVE DONE SO)
Please remove all of my above posts. I believe that what I have to say needs to be said in person and is being taken out of context here.
(ONE THING TO BE SAID FOR THESE ONLINE MEETINGS IS THAT IT'S ALL HERE IN CONTEXT FOR EVERYONE TO SEE AND WEIGH AND CONSIDER. HERE'S THE PROBLEM; IF YOUR COMMENTS ARE REMOVED, THEN THE REPLIES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE TO THEM ARE EERILY OUT OF CONTEXT. I DID REMOVE SOME POSTS BETWEEN YOU AND MIKE, BUT IT WAS BECAUSE YOU BOTH ASKED ME TO AND THEY DIDN'T RELATE TO THE TOPIC UNDER DISCUSSION)
Let it be stated for the record that I am not on the committee to review Judging criteria. My mistake evidently.

Hey Steve, dont know how you got on the wrong foot with kinney, seems like a fine fellow to me. Well respected by those he does buisness with, has always paid his bills, no complaints from guild members. He also pays his dues and advertises. Susan, whats with the censorship? This would be a greattopic for our next meeting. hOW can I respond to comments and critism if content is deleated. Let the comments fly, this should be the same as a regular meeting.
Please read the thread under bylaws where I explain what and how I have edited. To sum up:
I am editing my own responses when I catch spelling or grammer errors (AND MARKING THE CHANGES BY CAPITALIZING AND PARENTHESES)
I am editing other people's posts by moving them exactly as they are stated to the appropriate category when they place them randomly in other unrelated categories, as you have done here.
I have stated that I am willing to change or delete participants' posts if they so request. I did this with an exchange between Mike and Cindy which did not relate directly to the topic being discussed, with both their requests to do so left in place. (WHEN I'VE DONE THIS, IT HAS BEEN NOTED IN PLACE WITH CAPITALS AND PARENTHESES AND THE REQUESTS HAVE REMAINED ON SCREEN AS POSTED BY THE SAID PARTICIPANT.)
I have stated that I will leave comments in when deleting them would put other participants' comments or replies out of context.
Anyone not wanting this to happen can pay attention to the way meetings are organized, and think their comments through before posting them.
Oh yesI fergot, I am also wlling upon rekwist, to change splling or grammor errirs four enybdy woo figers owt that thay maade a mustake. Agin, thay gotta rekwest it, and agin(IT WLILL BE MARKED LIKE THIS HERE.)
(ALSO, WHEN A PERSON IS COMMUNICATING BY EMAIL BECAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GET INTO THIS FORUM (AS IS HAPPENING WITH MIKE), THE CUT AND PASTES SOMETIMES SEEM TO APPEAR AS AN EDIT. OR NOT, DEPENDING ON WHICH CONVOLUTIONS I GO THROUGH TO POST THEM)

hi bill good of you to make it to the meeting,I have heard nothing that would imply george kinny was anything less then a honest buisnessman, and pays his bills on time,it was at my very suggjestion that debbie call him and ask him to take an add out in the newsletter{deb?} and he said yes, perhaps I should have called him and he might have said no,as he has in the past to me, but in this big sloppy messy thing called life, I say bring him on,let the man show up at a meeting and show us, or tell us? why he would love to do grand things for the future of woodcarving! I see a trend here towards the guild being set up to be eviscerated,by a corprate mentality and it makes me nerves shake, and twitch,do not under any circimstances delate any of my posts! because I stand on the high ground of truth ,justice, and the american way! and bill, my wonderful forthright ex-partner, I have tried on a few occasions to talk to george kinny, and have been spurned, tried to sell him carvings, have called him to be involved in contests, ect, been turned down flat,so mabye I make him nervous, mabye I got bad breath, mabye he is little and I am big, mabye its my imagination, but one thing I know for sure is that a guild meeting will bring folks together who normaly wouldnet inhabit the same peice of real-estate,so in conclsion, bring the little feller with you to the meeeting, heck we might get along fine,I never had the chance to get to know him,and now welcome the chance!?
