Hello
i have a question about the function of the hymen. is there a function to the hymen? does it have any importance? does it have a health importance? does it have a role in anything? i understand it is a memberane that gets torn during the first sexual experince but why is it there in the first place? does anyone know?
Also could anyone describe the pain you get from the hymen getting torn for the first time? is it a severe pain? do u bleed alot? does it hurt to walk? does it hurt the next morning?

The hymen is a peice of tissue that protects the vagina. It is actually located outside the vagina and is considered more a part of the vulva. This tissue can vary in thickness and strength among women. Some women are even born without it altogether. The tearing or breaking of this peice of tissue also varies. In some women it's bery thick and hard to penetrate while other women probably break their own by doing exercises, inserting tampons or masterbating. For some women there is pain and bleeding and for others there is not. So it all depends on you and how you're built.
