I've noticed that sometime when my vaginal walls aree dry inserting and taking out tampons can hurt. Especially the cardboard applicators like Tampax. Try another brand like Playtex that has a smooth plastic applicator. And try keeping the tampon in a little longer before removing it. A dry tampon will usually cause some discomfort.

Try smearing some water soluble or contraceptive jelly in you Vagina and a little on the Tampon specially if you are using Tampax. Move your finger in and out
