The Moodies are coming to town!

Just wanted to say how excited I am that I get to see the Moodies in about a week and a half at the Tower Theater! I saw them last year in October at the same place and they were fantastic. I'll miss Ray's "Legend of a Mind", however; last time, I actually thought it was the best number out of the whole concert. Ray's flute blew me away. He will sorely be missed.

Sorry, but I just felt the urgent need to brag about it a little bit! I'm still very young to be a Moodies fan (I'm only 15) but I can still appreciate seeing them twice in two years, can't I? I'll be sure to rant about the concert after I see it on the 20th!

Hope everybody here is doing well.

Sarah

Brag away!

That's great you're getting a chance to see them so much at a young age! If you are 15, that must mean you were a Sur La Mer baby... I guess that makes me a Caught Live baby (the year it was released, not recorded lol) and my musical consciousness began with Long Distance Voyager, which my mom got when it was new in '81 and i've been hooked on this band ever since.

I know what its like to champion a band your peers just "dont get" or refuse to like because they're "old." I got razzed all the time by people in my class since my tastes skewed towards the Moodies, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who and the Stones etc. One thing I found is once people got older their tastes became more refined... now i know guys who were hair metal fans in their youth who are into all kinds of far better stuff, new and old.

When that Oct 88 setlist was put on the other thread (thanks again!!!!) it brought back a lot of great memories that had slipped out of my head in going to my first (and still only) Moodies concert. You're definitely taking advantage while they're still out there doing shows, regardless of the Ray Thomas factor and that's a great thing. (I must say i'm glad i saw them back when they would give him at least 2 songs in a show.)

Anyway it's late and i'm just about down for the count, but i hope you enjoy the show... it will be interesting to see how many Christmas tunes they do.

The show was great!

November 14 2003, 3:55 AM

Hi everyone....just wanted to let you know that the show in Indianapolis was great.
They did sing some of the songs from "DECEMBER" for the first time and it was wonderful. I was happy that they didn't cut "HIGHER AND HIGHER" or "ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY" to fit the christmas songs in....they were great to hear.
On a sad note, I did miss Ray a lot. So many of the songs sound rather hollow without his voice blending in with the others. I will say that aside from that, it was honestly one of best concerts I have ever seen them perform.
Hope you enjoy the show Sarah...have a great time!

I'm glad you had a good time, and I'm glad for all the cd's we have with Ray on them!

Who knows? Perhaps he will do a solo album, or better yet, join the other Moodies on another new one.

It ain't over 'til it's over.

Ray's music

November 15 2003, 3:42 AM

I was listening to "FROM MIGHTY OAKS" today on my headset while I was cleaning house. We really are lucky to have those great songs to listen to.
Did you know it's possible to make every living creature go into hiding when you sing along with that c.d.? Got rid of the teenagers, husband, and brother-in-law within the first couple of songs....the kitties and dog took a bit longer to leave. I sometimes wonder if animals aren't tone deaf and don't realize how BAD I sound....'specially when I have my headset on and can't hear myself...lol
When my crowd gets difficult and the Moody Blues karoke thing doesn't work, I just switch to "Phantom of the Opera".....everybody is gone in a jiffy when I screech along with that....lol
