Sur La Mer Help??

Hey all! First, I'd like to say, I've looked around this forum a bit, and I am truly impressed. I have been looking for a good Moodies forum to join and have been disappointed until now. I especially enjoyed reading the "rules page" for this forum

Right, Sur La Mer.......

I've listened to Moody Blues pretty much my entire life. I've only just recently become obssessed with the Moodies. I have listened to all of the songs on Sur La Mer, and it is quickly becoming one of my faourite albums. I am having a terrible time finding the album anywhere. On vinyl... on CD... even the local radio station (which plays Moodies almost every hour) doesn't have Sur La Mer.

I'm wondering if anybody knows why this album is so hard to find? Do I live in a mecca of really bad taste in music? Or is there something to this album that I am missing? Please if anybody knows anything about Sur La Mer, clue me in. Or is there a web page that some one can point me to where I can read up on this, or other, Moodies albums. I'm kind of obssessive when it comes to music. When I decide I like something, I want to know everything I can possibly learn about it.

I hope I'm not being too forward, this being my first post here, but I am really anxious to find out more aobut this album!

Thanks in advance for any assitance!

~Peace!

I have looked on eBay. I've seen the vinyl for about $4.00US. (which I'd gladly pay even $15 for.) I've been able to get lots of MBs albums for $4.00 for six or seven albums at a time. I am in the process of collecting every MBs album on vinyl. But I'd like to find Sur La Mer on CD as well.

The fact that the vinyl is so much more expensive than the other albums, and I can't find it on CD, is why I was curious if there is something specific to that album that makes it more difficult to find. My friends who listen to Moody Blues aren't even familliar with Sur La Mer.

I can't think of any reason that Sur La Mer would be any harder to find than the other albums. I would have thought it would have been easier since it is one of the newer releases.
Have you tried any of the Moody Blues sites like John Lodge.com or Justin Hayward's site? They both have stores you can order Moody Blues items from. How about the Moody Blues official fan site page? They would surely have it for sale.
You might also go to the Higher and Higher site for information. They have a lot of people that post there who would know a great deal about the album and where it can be found...they have all kinds of Moody fans there who know all kinds of information about the band and their music.
Good luck in your search.
Just out of curiosity...what is your favorite song off of Sur La Mer?

Thanks for all the advice on where to find Sur La Mer. I've already pretty much figured I'll have to buy it via Internet.

Hmmm..... My favourite song on the album...
I love them all so much.
I guess that "No More Lies" and "I Know You're Out There Somewwhere" would have to tie for number one. Then, closely behind... "Vintage Wine"...."Want to be With You"....River of Endless Love....Here Comes the Weekend....Breaking Point

It's just a really really good album. All the songs on it grip me unlike any other songs I've ever heard. Even more than other Moodies music. Wow! I didn't realise till just now that I had a "favourite Moddies album. Sur La Mer

GOOD CHOICES...LOL

February 7 2005, 3:27 AM

It sounds like you really love the whole album.
I like Sur La Mer too. I would have to say that my favorite song is "I Know You're Out There Somewhere".
My favorite Moody album would be a toss up between "Seventh "Sojourn", "Long Distance Voyager" or "The Present". It would be a hard choice to make...I love all the albums and I think their music is very special.
Having to buy Sur La Mer online doesn't surprise me. I have a hard time finding their music around where I live too. Aren't we lucky to be living in times that all we have to do is "one click" shopping and it's sent to us...lol....sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes not...giggle.

The Present...

February 7 2005, 4:57 AM

...another one high on my list!

I think that "Sur La Mer aside, "Strange Times" would tie for first. Then "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour."  I love all the albums though.

My girlfriend was able to get the cd of Sur La Mer off eBay for me in excellent condition, for $10. It'll be here in a week or so. Now the question is, can I wait that long??? lol

I like purchasing cds from local shops, because then it's instant gratification, but I'll wait however long, or go through whatever it takes to get ahold of all the Moodies music. It's not a collection untill I have every album on cd and vinyl. (I'm about half way there  )

Glad you found a copy of "Sur La Mer". It can be frustrating to not be able to find what you are looking for.
I am not a big fan of "Strange Times"...I like about four songs on it and that's about it. I do love "Every Good Boy Derserves Favour"...it has a lot of great music on it.
Halfway to having all their work on vinyl and cd? Wow...that's pretty impressive...lol. It takes a while...lots of music over the last 45 years...sigh...
Good luck and happy searching.

Sur La Mer Vinyl

February 10 2005, 8:41 AM

HURRAH! Just two days after placing the winning bid, on eBay, for Sur La Mer cd, my girlfriend was able to get a winning bid on the Vinyl as well. Ironic, I couldn't find it on vinyl or cd, Now I have it on both. lol.

Cds are so much more practical and versatile, but the records look so so good all displayed on my bedroom walls!

Oh I do so love the Moodies. To my dear sweetheart out there who got me addicted to the Moody BLues..... thank you. It's the best habbit I never want to break!

The best habbit I never want to break...lol

February 14 2005, 3:32 AM

That's one way to look at it...lol.
I miss the "vinyl" days. There was nothing better than getting a new album and exploring everything on it, in it, and all around it...lol. CD artwork is not the same!!!
Glad it all worked out for you.
Gee, I never thought of it but the artwork from their albums WOULD make great wall art for a bedroom.
I guess I am not a serious collector. I have all of the cd's and then some stuff in album and eight track and cassette tape.
As long as I can hear it on something...that is all I really care about...lol.

I have it on CD as well as several vinyl. I can burn you copy of it onto CD and any others you'd like because I have all the studio albums on CD. Let me know.
