Response to new to board and JRA

Hi Brett,

Take a deep breath.... Jra is a long journey and from the moms here there is a wide variety in how and to what our kids respond. Yes, with the right treatment your daughter can get better. Also there may be setbacks where the joints flare up.

My daughter was 3 1/2 yrs old when she was diagnosed with pauci-jra. She has only been affected in her knees. She has been on Naproxen, then vioxx, and most recently relafin. But what has put her in remission has been joint injections in her knees. She had been medicine-free and symptom -free for 4 1/2 yrs. The last summer her knees went into a flare. Thats when she went on relafin and had joint injections again. She is back in remission and off the meds again. So far, so good. Danielle has a very mild case of jra and hasn't had uvitis, which is an eye complication. You need to check about having your daughter's eyes checked out. Did your dr mention this? Our drs say that they want to control the disease so that Danielle can do/play whatever she wants. She is almost 11yrs old now and has played soccer, and now plays volleyball, basketball, and swimming.

There is alot to absorb when you are first hit with this diagnosis. There are alot of experienced moms here who can give you some "been there, done that" kind of advise. Unfortunately because of Danielle's mild case, our experiences are a bit limited. But hang in there, there is usually someone else who can help.

Feel free to come here with questions or to vent. We all understand.

Mary Jean
