Response to new to board and JRA

My daughter was diagnosed at 2 years...She had a swollen ankle, swollen fingers and walked with a limp. I shrugged it off for a few weeks thinking that she has twisted her ankle and jammed her fingers...Well, needless to say, I was wrong. After all the testing, cbc's, positive ANA, etc...I found out about the positive ANA on a Friday afternoon, of course, and couldn't get into the specialist at Tulane until Monday morning. The first thing the doc said to me that Monday was..."Let me guess, you think she's dying"...with that I broke down and said "YES"...Sophie borderlines between Pauci and Poly...There was a point where each morning for many months, I had to pick her up out of bed and let her soak in a warm bath before she could walk...If she would try to get out of bed before soaking, the second her little feet hit the ground, she would collapse in pain. Let me make one suggestion that worked like a miracle for us...It was a heated mattress pad...I would put it on low and it did wonders for her...After Naproxyn, and Methtrx, she is now in remission. She is 5 years old now, and you would never know this little girl had anything wrong with her...Give it time...I'm sure your daughter will recover. I know how heartbreaking it is. I do highly suggest the heated mattress pad. It worked for us.
