Larry,
I took your advice and contacted CNI for more information about purchasing precious metals. The materials they sent are very interesting. I learned a lot. I had no idea that owning most forms of gold had been illegal under recent conditions that, if repeated, would be one reason to own gold in the first place. I had never thought about old coins for a few reasons: I have no idea whether the premium is fair, the premium makes it leveraged and harder to judge risk, bullion coins seem so much more objective. Would you give me your opinion? How much does the gold recall of the 30s weigh on your decision of what form of precious metal to own?
Thanks,
Howard
I own Gold and Silver Eagles and some Morgans and that's pretty much it. I don't mess with rare coins. I consider them appropriate for people who understand that market. I don't.
As far as the remote possibility that the government is going to confiscate my gold is concerned, it's pretty far down on my list of things to worry about. I'm never going to have all my assets in gold and I try not to worry about things that I can't do anything about.
