My Hair Story

My personal hair journey began about 4 years ago.
When I was younger, my father forbid us to cut our
hair, so naturally, that's all I wanted to do! As
soon as I could, I cut all of my hair off and hated
it. The next few years I flopped from cut to cut
trying to find the "one" that would make me happy. I
tried about every color except blonde in this search
and still felt no sudden wave of joy in my hair.
Four years ago when I was expecting my son (number 3
for me) I was so hot all the time and tired, so I
cut my hair. I cut it so short it was only about 4
or 5 inches long on the top. the back and sides were
tapered against my head. When my son was about 2
months old I remember looking at myself and thinking
"What am I trying to accomplish"? I then and there
was so convicted in my spirit of worrying about my
physical appearance. I knew the Bible said that long
hair was my "crown of glory". That doesn't mean you
HAVE to have long hair, but if it was meant to be a
crown of glory for me, why wouldn't I want that?
That was when I prayed and asked for help in growing
out my hair. I promised to never cut it again and I
can say in 4 short years my hair is now almost 36
inches long! I now enjoy my "crown" and I would
never think of giving it up to please "worldly"
styles. I thank God every time I comb it out for the
wonderful gift he has given me.

I am going to be 31 this year with the gray coming in nicely. I don’t want to color it, but I sometimes have to fight the urge. I envision myself looking like Emmylou Harris in a couple years. I already have a serious skunk spot in the left side part on my head! Honestly ladies, doesn’t gray make you look wise? Someone please lie to me and say yes! I have a very pale complexion, so white hair will do NOTHING for me…oh well. I will live with what I get.
