Penciling "How To"

Sort of.

When I was working on Wonder Woman a friend asked me to xerox each step in the creation of a page for an article in a 'zine she was working for. This ran in that magazine (I forget the title), tho for some reason they left out step 3.

Anyway -- goes like this:

Panel layout and perspective grid:



Pencil figures and background:



Ink figures (spotting smaller blacks):



Ink backgrounds ("Inkers use rulers!"):



Spot larger blacks:



Probly don't have to tell you none of this is hard and fast. Adopt, adapt and improve!

This looks like a good thread to insert a JB "How to" from 1984, to look at for the fun of it. This is from "The Illustrated Comic Art Workshop" Vol. 2, which was ostensibly written by Dick Giordano and Frank McLaughlin, with sections written by our own Mr. Byrne and others.
