U¡¦Vaharta Ba-Hayyim--Choose Life!
Jewish Contemplative Retreat
in Preparation for the High Holidays
Taught by Sheila Katz and Lorel Zar-Kessler
How can we prepare for the High Holidays on this last Shabbat before Rosh Hashanah?
In our daily processes of teshuvahƒ{turning and returningƒ{we grapple with things we should or shouldn't have done, and try to figure out what to do in order to repair the world, return to wholeness, forgive and be forgiven. But on Shabbat, we live as if the world is perfect.
The words of Torah for this day in the parashat Nitzavim are an exquisite amalgam of precise instructions for entering into a deeper and more mysterious process of teshuvah, tailor-made for Shabbat. Come learn how. ¡§It is not in the heavens¡Kneither is it in the sea,¡KThe thing is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it.¡¨ (Deut.30: 12-14)
Join us in contemplative community on a half-day retreat to experience these teachings through practices of chant and silence, prayer and, yes, eating meditation, that awaken in us possibilities of return to what is essential. ¡§Choose life!¡¨ (Deut.30:19)
