Mar. 5, 2007: Memorial Program in Memory of Gita Werchol
The Yiddish Voice (DOS YIDISHE KOL) radio show will present a "Shloyshim" (Memorial) radio program in memory of Gita Werchol, Brookline resident and Holocaust survivor, who passed away on January 28, 2008. The memorial radio show, which is in Yiddish, will be broadcast on WUNR 1600 AM, on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., and also livestreamed on the Internet at yiddishvoice.com.
On the program the following guests will share rememberances of Gita:
* Hasia Segal, friend and cohost
* Jake Schlitt, fellow writers group member
* Harry Tilinger, son-in-law
* Dovid Braun, friend
The show's host is Mark David. In addition to guest speakers, recordings of Gita will be heard, including a 2005 interview by Rebecca David, daughter of host Mark David, who did the interview as a grade school student for a class project on European Jewish History. In the interview, Gita talks about her life before the war as a young student.
The entire program will be in Yiddish, except for an excerpt of Gita's writing in English that Jake Schlitt will read.
