the sweet and plain sparrow
sings with the pride of a dux
perched on any old branch
huffing and puffing
it's tiny little tough-lungs
in an arterial sea of flux
oblivious to the road tax
in the drizzle and the hum
with a look as though it has seen itself
through the barrel of a gun
it's dark and wise little eye spies me...
it's breathless, sprinting blood
beneath the morning's traffic-din
it's tiny heartbeat like a drum
this little beast, it ruffles
and it shuffles all it's plumes
twitching it's dull tafetta
wearing raindrops like they're jewels
this morning, still a-yawning
it is fresher than all green
playing host to nature's furnishings
for this strutting, little queen
it's eye is like a deep pool,
a wishing well of saint
and it's eye looks into my urn
where my burnt eyelashes wait,
it warns me as it beckons me,
it whispers... through the leaves
'already murdered, as you're human dear,
the blown ear-drum of your peace...
will not hear these words, only a song...
with a melody oh so sweet'

IN THE INFANCY OF ANWAY - THOUGHTS
ray hollingsworth said
On BBC News 24 it has just been announced that the Arctic Monkeys album has outsold the combined sales of the top 20 albums in the UK in the last couple of days alone.
This is fantastic news and proves that you can release your work as downloads and people will still buy the product through the retail sector despite duplication.
There is a massive web thing going on for these guys from Sheffield. Word of mouth is the most powerful of all marketing tools.
The world is changing by the hour.

I love the fact that the majors which they pretty much all are now anyway, will have to release the stranglehold they have had on the music industry and indeed musician's necks for the last few decades..
For too long it has been the hopeless endeavour of young free thinking, risk-taking, evolutionary creatively-motivated musicians to try to convince twats with grey flat-tops, bangles and no ear to speak of, to finance them and allow them to record, market and release their music on even the slimest level of distributional quantity... battling tooth and nail to be allowed to do some thing as fundamental as release on vinyl say.
Here's to the success of the artic monkeys and generally the loosening of the corporate grip on the neck of art we hope...
